No they don't. It was a personal decision for some not to go. These Olympics are falling apart at the seams.

 

And this 'personal decision' makes them look like they don't really like the opposite sex.....They need to grow a pair and Man Up.

^^ What he said :) If you are going to "question everything" please look at everything-not just the tee shot. Do you really think the women drive about 85% of the men and then magically hit their 7 iron the same distance as men? So many posters say the women are weak and play a boring game because it is driver hybrid all day. Hmmm, maybe that is because they play a course that is relatively longer than the men do.

 

I posted Hanse's rationale for the course design - give the post a read. I tried to make friendly but some of you haven't had your coffee. Growl! lol.

 

99% of the people that question everything just get to make the same mistakes that the experts figured out years ago.:) Seriously there is a lot more than just yardage adjustments. You have to figure in accuracy (a 150 yard 6 iron is more accurate than a 200 yard 6 iron), stopping abiity (spin & height), and obviously bunkering and landing zone placement. That 270-290 bunker to challenge a guy is the prime landing zone for a long hitter on the LPGA.

 

What would be interesting to know is how the green conditions and pin placements differ from when the men played. Same thing with rough around the green. There are constant debates on how the skills on the various tournaments differ but you rarely see them playing the same courses under close to the same conditions.

Jtp, agree. Biggest issue in an event like this one is the talent discrepancy from top to bottom in the women's event. In a normal tour event the poor players miss the cut and that's that. In the Olympics I think there is a little bit more consideration for the lower players and they attempt to balance the difficulty of the course. Hard to do and still challenge the top tier. By the numbers the course is playing more difficultly for the women but it seems to me the best women are going lower than the men but the bottom of the women's field is worse.

Could be partly a result of pin positions and weather but is mostly showing the lack of depth in the women's field

My initial predictions. Pretty accurate for the first two rounds, but pretty safe predictions really. Brooke's moving nicely but Lydia hasn't fired the afterburners yet....

 

Gerina and Amy Yang look like the Sergio Garcias of the women's game - plenty of promise and you really want to believe in them but no major results. But Amy can shoot really low - 30 on the front 9. I don't see Gerina matching those kind of flashes of brilliance.

 

Nice to see some unfamiliar golfers doing well - Aditi Ashok for instance.
