SRIXON 765 Initial thoughts and pics!

I took the 765 out for a quick spin at the range during my lunch break yesterday. I only hit about forty balls alternating between the six and seven irons. They feel AMAZING. It was only a short session off a mat but wow they feel great. There's definitely a lot more feedback than from my previous set of AP2. It's early days but the Steelfiber i95 seem like they are going to be a great fit.

I'm playing at North Berwick today so will get a chance to gauge the turf interaction. I think I'm onto a winner with this set.

New irons, North Berwick, hopefully toss in some decent weather. Good Lord it doesn't get any better than that. I love that golf course. Let us know how the sticks work out.

Just loving the 765 irons

Playing at Western Gailes and Glasgow Gailes with Royal Troon coming up in April.

Turf interaction is wonderful , shallow divots, and fantastic feel .

Pics show my set along with new Vokey SM6 50/08 and nos MD Ballesteros 56 low bounce sand iron which is proving to be a versatile weapon

Have never been more confident with a set of clubs.

Thanks to Graham Fox ( PGA tour pro ) for expert custom fitting at Clydeway Golf Centre.

After a stint with a combo set of 565 (4-iron) / 765 (5-P) with Modus 125S, I've decided to order a set of 565 (4-7) / 765 (8-P) with Steelfiber i95S. These have been my favorite shaft of all time and I really liked the Srixons, but the shaft was just too heavy for me for 18 holes. I think they should be here in a couple of weeks.

What is the length of the Z565 4 Iron with the Modus 125 and do you want to sell it?

Ordered z565 5, z765 6-aw modus 120x. Was going to get the 565 6 instead but after swinging the demos I preferred the 765. How long has been the turnaround on these for those that have ordered recently? I have a scramble on the 21st and hope to get at least one or two rounds in with these before that

Just wondering why the switch from the JPX combo to Z combo. I'm a long time Mizuno player and trying to decide between those two combo sets. Leaning towards the Srixons, and a little additional input couldn't hurt. Thanks

For me the consistency and feel of the mizunos were great but I have a bit of a steep swing so the Vt sole seems to work better. The srixons have more forgiveness and ctaper kites aren't the most fun on the body if you miss the sweet spot which I miss it quite a bit. Plus I am a wrx ho who relieves his work stress by coming on here and eventually buying clubs I don't need haha

Thanks for the reply. I'm sallow and that is my concern with the Srixons, that they may have too much bounce.

Nice! I can't wait to get my i95's in my 770's! If those irons don't workout I'll be getting a set like yours. Make sure to share when they come in.

If it helps, I have a shallow swing and love the 765s. In fact I've come from ping ansers and cobra amp forged before, and I'd say that the srixons have much less bounce and better turf interaction.

I'll share some pics and my thoughts after I get some rounds on them. Steelfibers have been my all-time favorite shafts over time. I still have a set of Tourstage 701's that I play from time to time. Let us know how those 770's work out too.

I'm very fortunate to be a member at North Berwick. You're right, there are few finer places to play at in the world than NB on a nice day.

I had to break it to my wife over the weekend that there are now three of us in the marriage. The 765s are that special (NB. This is after one round so it's definitely still the honeymoon stage). They feel considerably better than my previous set of 716 AP2. I wouldn't say it's a Mizuno 'buttery' feel, more of a solid feeling when flushed. The turf interaction is what really stood out. I play my winter golf at a links course with notoriously tight lies. The 765s get through the turf beautifully with no digging issues. It's hard to do a direct comparison in terms of distance over the AP2s as I've gone from 120 odd gram S300 AMT to Steelfiber i95s. I can now see why Steelfibers are so highly regarded.

A quick note on the No1 grips. I got to the first tee on Saturday and realised I'd left my golf glove in my other bag. I would have struggled to play 18 holes glove less with NDMC which is what I've used for the past ten years or so. It wasn't ideal but the No1 were great. A real tackiness to them without feeling 'mushy'. They're quite expensive but my early impressions are very positive.

The next time I get to use the irons will be on holiday in central Florida. It'll be interesting to see how they cope with the Bermuda grass (probably a lot better than I will, note to self, be aggressive when chipping!)

Wow... All these NO1 Grip lovers made me have a look. 15 bucks each is a bit steep so I hope they lower your scores. :)

My dad lives in the Tampa area and you seem to have figured out that it's imperative to be aggressive with chipping on Bermuda greens. I generally loft down and chip with a PW or 9 Iron rather than a SW . Have a fantastic vacation.

Thanks Tzoid. Last year when I was in Florida was my first experience of playing on Bermuda grass. It took me a good few rounds to feel a bit more comfortable. It is just completely different from the grasses we have here in Scotland. Any shot around the green without speed/aggression would result in a duff. Playing everything through the air also took some getting used to. Hopefully the NO1s work well in hot weather with sweaty hands. Most importantly I'm just looking forward to playing golf in shots and a polo shirt!

I've never played on anything but Bermuda. There's grasses where you don't have to be aggressive?!

What struck me was that on Bermuda there is much less margin for error. Your contact has to be spot on. On the grasses over here (fescue, bent etc.) you can get away with more if you mishit a chip. If you're not feeling too confident with your short game you can either putt a lot from off the green or play a bump and run with a low lofted iron/hybrid. From my (very) limited experience on Bermuda, the play seemed to be take your most lofted wedge and get the ball in the air.

That's one of the great things about playing golf in different countries, adapting to varying conditions.

With high lofted wedges and balls that spin and bite Bermuda greens tend to grab like Velcro if the shots not hit properly. Many years ago I took a buddy to my parents house in the Tampa area for a week of golf and he was ready to leave after the second round because he always hit chips and pitch shots with his 56 & 60 degree wedges. a I had to give a scratch golfer a 20 minute lesson on hitting lower shots with top spin and release on Bermuda. It was pretty funny watching him explode in anger but I fixed him... :)

I agree with this statement 100%! I too have a shallow (picker/sweeper) swing and the 765s are perfect for me. I feel like I'm an excellent ball-striker with these when I really am benefiting from a really good technology on a great iron.

Was really hoping to come here and read that the 765's are way was less forgiving than 716 AP2 and that the great feel and perceived performance is all smoke and mirrors and a total myth. I'm not reading that and after a great fitting session with them yesterday I think a decision has been made.

Great post.
