Jonathan Wall on Hideki Matsuyama:

Lots of chatter about Hideki Matsuyama potentially moving elsewhere. Can confirm deal with Srixon did not expire at the end of 2016.

Hideki is a star and the best ballstriker on the planet, but since he speaks little English and doesn't do many interviews, is he a great spokesman? Maybe in Asia, but not so much here. Still, Srixon could really use him.

Confirmed that Rory and Tony Finau will be playing ProV1x balls without an agreement this year.

Interesting since they played two different Nike balls this past season. Finau played the RZN Tour Blacks which seem to be a closer fit to the ProV1x.

Just like his Nike club philosophy, he's playing the 975D driver, 910F 3 wood, 680 irons, and an old Bullseye putter

I was wondering. I saw someone comment that they need more advertisements of him, and I completely agree.... unless he is moving on. The question would be to where? Tourstage or even just carry Bridgestone? That would seemingly be a smart move for both parties.

Maybe not a month ago, but I'm sure ball sales will be going up this next year due to some new guy they signed.

Yeah, because those Nike balls flew off the shelves because he played them. Oh wait.....

During the last few years he did, but Tiger was hurt for most of that time. When healthy and playing well, Tiger does sell equipment no doubt.

I was more speaking to the RZN line of balls (2015-16). I agree that Tiger does still move the equipment needle.

There is absolutely no evidence of this. Nike club sales were always lousy, even when Tiger was playing great. Ball sales the same. I really don't think any single player has an effect on equipment sales, even Tiger. Now when 80% of the tour is using a certain ball, or half the guys are using the same driver, that has a huge effect.

Nike club sales would have been a fraction of what they are without Tiger. Doubt they would even have got off the ground. Researchers at Carnegie Mellon have argued that Nike made $60 million in profit off Tiger before the scandal in 2009 and still $1.5 million per year during the lean years on Nike golf balls alone.

Pretty cool to see what these guys are doing without an equipment contract. Or maybe Tony did sign one with Ping.

Curious to see what other Nike guys like Koepka, Watney, etc. do.

Maybe not one to move the needle so to speak but Richie Ramsay, European Tour player and former US Amateur Champion has moved away from Taylor Made. He has been with TM for as long as I can remember him being a pro and even when he was an Am.

Looks like he has gone with a mixed bag with TM driver, Callaway irons and a Scotty Cameron putter.

Interestingly, on Twitter, someone said that they thought he was a Taylor Made staff player and his response to that was "unfortunately not now".

Saw that as well, thought it was interesting. Have to assume that maybe the contract was not renewed by TM?

TM is cutting big dollars in staff members. Even their long time club professionals are being dropped. And if you are familiar with the green grass market, they're the ones actually selling golf clubs...

He has actually posted a further tweet and he mentions market forces, in Europe in particular as the reason for his no longer being a TM staffer. I haven't actually had much experience with Taylor Made club pro's. I know a few Pro's and Assistants in my local area and only one of them is a TM guy. The rest of them had been very negative towards TM due to their old release cycles. Will be interesting to see how things pan out given the recent changes that seem to have taken place with TM ahead of some even bigger changes if a buyer eventually emerges.

Carly Booth has signed clubs/apparel with PumaCobra. Been with Nike since she was 12. Big change.

I wasn't familiar with her so I googled her and given the amount of non golf images that showed up, this makes a lot of sense that she signed with Cobra puma. Cobra seems to have a penchant for style (or hotness) over substance. Fortunately they have both with Fowler. The style part.
