SuperSpeed Golf training system

do you think you need to use driver shafts, or do you think you could do the same with iron shafts?

Nothing wrong with experimenting with both. However, it'll be easier to match weight ratios with lighter, driver shafts. Also, I prefer to feel the most weight on end of shaft. Learn to feel the weight whipping through and not just "pushing" mass...

Was planning on waiting a few weeks, but had to go ahead and get started after reading these threads.

I've only had one session, but I have to agree that I not sure this will work very well for most people without the SSR (or something to track your speed). You really need to see your actual speed for feedback, because what you THINK is fast and what is actually fast are sometimes two completely different things. My first impression is that the initial 5% bump they initially talk about is probably from simply learning what is ACTUALLY fast.

Really excited to keep working with this and see if I see similar gains as some of the other posters!

Progress continues! I went to an indoor facility to see if these gains would show up on a launch monitor. Don't trust the technology as much as trackman, but I was a good 5-7 MPH faster than I was a month ago on every driver swing. The interesting thing - as others have noted - was that it wasn't as if I was swinging wildly. My dispersion was just as good or better as it has been in the past.

It's amazing to me that overspeed training hasn't gotten more attention. I've been willing to tinker with any ball / club for a long time to get just a bit more distance (just like everyone else on WRX), all the while a 15 minute workout program can get you more than any piece of equipment.

Tripp - these gains are off the charts! I've made some decent gains since I started Feb 21 (100mph up to 115mph) but not as rapid or consistent upward trend as you. I'll post charts at the weekend. What I have noticed that I early release so i'm losing speed before the radar (my 8 yr old son made a comment!) but when I have ones that I don't do that then there 5 mph faster. So I have something to work on there. I've been incorporating weights and mobility work this year so this is a long term plan for me. I too have noticed that on the course i'll hit it further and wont feel like ive tried to swing any faster, it just happened.

Keep updating us, I for one want to keep trying harder when I see success like yours!

I am very interested in trying this and appreciate all the information in this thread. I think I can build my own set pretty cheap because I have or have access for free to all the parts other than the shafts. The cheapest shafts I am finding are around $10-$15 each, so I am jealous of you guys that said you were able to find Golfworks clearance shafts for $1 each. I have two questions?

1) Does anyone still have access to these clearance $1 or $2 shafts? I would gladly pay $15 for three xstiff shafts shipped. Please let me know if anyone has extras or has access to do me a favor and pick me up some. Thank you!

2) I think the three approximate weights are 20% less than driver, 10 % less than driver, 5% more than driver. Could someone with the genuine SS set and a scale post the actual weights of their three sticks?

Thanks!

Something I want to share. I have been with the Tour Striker ball and noticed a 5mph speed bump when my triceps's are on top of my pectoral muscles vs. off to the side trying to squeeze my arms together. Off to the side my speeds are 109-110mph and on top they are 115-116mph and the swing feels a lot more free to swing. Something you guys might want to try. I noticed a Video with Martin Chuck doing it in his preshot routine but he never mentions it.

appreciate that Ray!

In one of the all-time numbers, I'm down in Cabo this week, but my driver broke in my travel bag. It's a club glove but a soft shell. Used a rental driver yesterday and was all over the place with it. Hopefully better today and I can report back some bombs!

That makes a lot of sense, when you think about it possibly allowing the arms to swing more freely without interference.

I was inspired by trippdudley's progress tracking, so decided to set one up as well. I have to say I'm a little disappointed in my own progress (though I did about 3 sessions before I started tracking which I believe I achieved some increases from my original session). I haven't yet gotten out to the course to see if this work is translating to on-course distance, but hope to soon!

I'm also not doing this consistently with regards to same time of day, so I may have worked out that day already or had to do it late after the wife and kid went to bed!

Perhaps I should switch to playing left handed ;)

You may need more rest between sessions. Despite it's brevity, these workout are very taxing on your neuro-muscular system.

If you get the Tour Issue washers they are weight sorted to a +/- .1 gram tolerance vs. the normal +/- .3 gram tolerance.

Well worth the extra 20 cents per washer.

Yesterday I had a lesson with my pro, who teaches full time at a golf school. I mentioned the results I'd with my superspeed workouts (+10-12 yards per club without feeling like I was swinging harder or differently). He said he'd had 4 or 5 guys tell him exactly the same story about super speed training.

I would kill for those kinds of results! Fingers crossed!

One thing that I've noticed doing my initial sets is how important tempo is to getting my optimal speed. If my takeway (backswing) gets too quick, I'm a good 5-6 MPH slower with all three versions. I'll be interested to see if that translates onto the course.

Thanks DLiver for the suggestion. I'd rather not do this haphazardly so will try to stick on a schedule (in the morning, stretch and not work out earlier in the day). Hopefully progress to come!

Received email today after inquiring. They responded immediately and said the shipment came in yesterday. They are spending today and this weekend to run them through quality control, then will start sending out sets Monday.

Anybody in the 100-105 mph range made any good gains that transalated to hitting it to spots they haven't before at there local club?

I was closer to 106-108 at the beginning of the year (a plateau I've been on for a couple of years). Since starting late Feb I haven't been on Trackman, but I'm definitely 10+ yards longer on average at my home course. I've hit some absolute bombs to the point I didn't think I was going to carry hazards and did. Am I going to start flying it 300 regularly? No, no I'm not. But coupled with regular practice I've found it keeps my tempo and release focused on speed as opposed to whatever I was focusing on before (face control, shot shape, etc). I would have paid more than I did for the results I've gotten. YMMV, but I'm a believer.

Not sure what video he is talking about for the pre shot routine. Martin has two videos on YouTube. Both show the same two uses. Between the elbows and deflated under trail armpit. The between the elbows would make sense to speed up as it helps ensure a properly sequenced swing.

I did not buy Martins ball. But nothing against it I bought a dollar store mini beach ball and attached a lanyard I had from a conference. It has held up for a year. You can also use balloons (suggested by iteach in a lesson). All three work. Balloons and beach ball cost me less than five dollars and I have been doing this work off and on for three years.

I haven't been on a launch monitor since I started a few weeks ago, but I am definitely seeing gains. I'm easily carrying the ball an additional 10 yards with what feels like zero additional effort. I know something has changed since I'm getting my miss-hits out there to 270 when those used to be my best drives of the round.

Quick anecdote: took my 7 year old golfing this Sunday for the third time (he just pushes the gas pedal and putts with me on the green) and we were waiting on a couple to clear the first fairway. My son is imploring me to "just hit already. They are so far. You can't reach them." I tell him, "you know your Dad is a pretty big bopper. I hit it almost as far as the pros." He says "then why don't you turn pro already and make some money?" I just start laughing. Couple clears and I hit one downwind off the dead center of the face. He says "Woah. You're right. You really do hit like a pro." Got to the ball and it was measured by GPS at 318. Wind or not, it was my 6th legitimate 300+ yard drive in the past four rounds. That's probably close to as many as I've had in my entire 20+ year golfing life up to this point.

I have been hitting the ball farther on the course, but it is playing havoc with my game because I have no idea how far I hit clubs in various conditions. Yesterday in cold wether (50º) I hit a 7 iron 170 yards with a following wind. That used to be my 152 club. I hit a really nice 5 iron into the wind past a pin from 180. That used to be my 170 club (in warm weather). I am pretty stoked with the results.

I started tracking my workout speeds last week, and I'm finding it more helpful that I thought. It has showed me when I haven't had enough rest to fully recover. Basically I've learned that every other day is too often a workout for me, particularly if I have been hitting the gym or doing other workouts.

Hey C - I ordered in the same timeframe and finally emailed them asking for an update a few days ago. Sounds like they're working OT over the last weekend with new inventory in an attempt to get caught up.
