P2 Putter Grip-Anyone using one?? (merged)

Recommended Posts

Just thought I'd try and get some opinion on here regarding the P2 putter grip.

I'm a scratch golfer but putting tends to be the weakest part of my game (averaging 33-34 putts per round).

I typically have a pronounced arc to my putting stroke and tend to play a heel shafted putter (Scotty Golo 3 at the moment). I understand the benefit of the P2 in that it raises the hands into a more locked position and prevents rotation. With that in mind would the grip suite a putting stroke with an arc?

Also I use a claw style grip on the putter, of the current tour models (I like a heavy putter head so I would want the lighter grip) which one do you think would suite that grip style?

Thanks.

the arc that you are producing in your stroke is not (should not be) because of wrist rotation. the p2 should work just fine on your heel shafted, high toe hang putter. what it’s doing is reducing the amount of manipulation to the club head wth hand movements.

I typically have my putter 1 degree flat as I stand away from the ball, will this grip raise my hands and raise the heel of the putter?

I tried the original Aware grip on my putter last weekend and liked it, but did not love it. I play my putter at around 36.5" so I felt the extra weight of the original would be helpful. The grip felt slightly too small for my hands. I just ordered the original Classic and I'll see how that one goes. I'll be trying it out with an Evnroll 1.1 putter I got! Hopefully make a few more putts this year

Sounds like a “can’t miss” combo but good luck because this is golf afterall.

Well I have now tried both the Aware and Classic original grips and I just do not like that. The original grip material gets slippery very quickly and it feels a little awkward how skinny the grip is in width. Just could not get comfortable with it. Back to the Superstroke Flatso 2.0 I go.

Put a P2 Aware Tour on my daugthers putter. She had a regular pistol style grip from Pure Grips. We've really noticed her speed control has gotten a lot better and less wristy since this grip locks the hands in much better.

Overall very pleased and she is very pleased with it. I was a little worried about the size but its been fine. One down side is that the Tour white gets dirty quickly. We will be getting the P2 Black Tour when we swap this one out once its too dirty.

I use a React Tour and putt left hand low. So far really liking it. I like a grip with more "V" back side as it helps me set the grip in my hands the same every time. Stroke still sucks but one part is the same all the time LOL. Angle wise as everyone notes helps set the wrist better it seems.

One thing I am not sold on yet is feel. I have always used the Lamkin oversize grip, full rubber ones. The rubber ones have better feel (softer) and is not as slippery. On those hot/muggy days I find the material on the P2 / Superstroke / Etc to be more slick than a standard rubber grip. I have in the past just wrapped the grip in black athletic tape to make up for the part.

Dan Mccarthy is a good friend of mine and he won his first web.com event this week using a P2 Aware Tour, he putts cross handed and put it in play on Thursday for the first time on an original white hot 2-ball lined and filled tour issue putter that I gave him 2 weeks ago as a back up. He didn't want to put it on his gamer in case he didn't like it, so he put it on the back up and loved it. He now is a huge fan of the p2 grips, he said it made a huge difference. He's always been a great putter, but lately his putter went cold until now.

Got a question I have a React Tour sitting next to me and a putter that would be a good candidate for a new grip. But I'm not completely sold on the React shape. I'm thinking the Reflex Tour is a better shape for me and will fit my larger hands better and also my grip.

Hard to tell from the pics on the site but is the Reflex thicker/larger than the React? Or at least feel larger?

The Reflex is significantly larger than the React..... I wear a Large glove and even the smaller React is surprisingly large feeling, but once you get used to it, it feels great!

I wear an XL and maybe on the edge of XXL for some gloves. I have a very thick palm and average fingers I guess.

I actually put the React Tour onto a putter today and it feels pretty good, still may get the Reflex and try it out. But for now gonna practice with this and get use to the hand positions of the P2 grips.

Been putting with my P2 grip on one of my putters on carpet in my basement. I will say one thing with the P2 grips. Don't go directly to the course without practicing with it for a while to get use to it. Grip is way different, I was pushing a ton of my putts left (I'm a lefty) and was ready to pull it off and put on another grip I had. Put the putter down and a few hours later grabbed it again, now more familiar with the grip it was much better. Today since I'm working from home I'll putt some more on slow times.

Had a putter fitting at Club Champion (Detroit). I planned to buy a Spider X and wanted to be sure I had the correct loft/lie. Was surprised when my fitter had me try the P2. He uses one. I thought it felt great. I ordered my putter with the aware tour. I’ll post after I’ve had a chance to try it out in the course.

I'm pretty late to the party but I had a P2 grip on my tei3 long neck when I first got it. I used it for about a month.

pros:

Loved how it felt in my hands. was very easy to keep hands still during putt and get them in a comfortable position on the grip. well made, you can tell it'll last a long time.

cons:

Was too heavy, threw the swing weight off balance making it hard to feel the head of the putter.

Overall:

Great grip but would recommend for a putter with 360-400g head.

FWIW that sounds like it might be similar to some of the feedback they got on their original grips they made the tour grips much lighter I think to compensate for that.

I simply love these grips. Have the Reflex tour on every putter I own. My hands just melt on the grip and the feel is outstanding.

Every once in a while when this thread gets bumped, I passionately wonder every time why there isn’t more discussion and people using these grips on this forum. It’s a shame honestly.

Agree 100%.
I just put one of these (Aware Tour) on my Newport, and love it. Can't believe how little information is out there, and how few reviews there are.
It's the first putter grip I've ever owned where my hands automatically fall into the same place automatically, which I've always struggled with.
And it puts the wrists in the perfect position. I used to lift my hands into position, now just gripping the putter puts them into the same position. It just feels so much more stable than any grip I've ever tried.

Do you use a regular reverse overlap type hand position?  What is your hand hand/glove size?

My grip is similar to a standard overlap grip. Medium/Large Cadet.

I grip with my left hand first, palm on the left side and fingers on the right. Back of the grip in the crease between palm and fingers.

With my right hand, I grip with my middle and ring fingers, and overlap the pinky. My right index finger goes straight down the side of the grip. Both thumbs on top, nestled together (not overlapping). Both palms are facing each other, but right hand is lower.
