Well, I was almost the first WRX attendee to die on one of these excursions. My flight coming into San Diego airport wasn't the way I was hoping to kick off the trip. On the first attempt to land the plane, the rear wheels touched down and the front wheel nearly took hold when the pilot punched it and we went soaring straight back up into the sky. My stomach dropped and the adrenalin was pumping. Only feedback we received was that something popped up in the runway. Right....anyway, the second attempt wasn't much better, but I survived...so that is over with thankfully.

Grabbed an Uber (sad to admit it is the first time I've used it) to the hotel. The Aviara hotel is beautiful. Check pics from the others. We met at 4 in the lobby to get a chance to meet each other (see BCULAWs pic above). I'm the guy second from the left. Everyone got on very well, as we chatted and waited to head off to dinner. First impression tells me all of these guys are passionate about the game and WRX. All extremely thankful for the opportunity and excited for what the trip will bring.

We met Jory and Ryan of TaylorMade (see Schnee's post for titles) for dinner at Chandler's Restaurant and Lounge. Yet another beautiful place in this trip. What can I say about these two guys...they are both so engaging. Hospitable and fun to chat life and golf with. There were various somewhat random conversations being had, but everyone was having a blast getting to meet one another.

I'm posting this at 4:30am local time, as my body is still used to its normal schedule. I can see the weather isn't looking good for the day ahead, but I'm sure we will make the absolute best of it!!!! First day was excellent, more to come!!!!!!

Oh man, that's like one of my worst nightmares. The wife and I go on trips at least twice a year and every time, I have to either pop a xanax or valium and follow it down with some alcohol, lol. I'm a bad flier and the worst one we've had was coming back from DR. The wind was up to 70MPH gust and we circled for about 45 minutes X feet before we could land. When we finally did, just about the ground our plane tilts from riiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiight back to straight and we land. Me and the dude next to me looked at each other and were like, "oh s***, this is it.", all while my wife practice fell asleep, lol. She's a champ.

Gladly everything turned out well man. I wish all you guy safe travels going forward!

NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

I'm with you Rob.....I'm not a good flier either. Wouldn't have been fun to die on my Bday.

Forecast isn't looking great for today, but the guys at TM indicated yesterday they have a plan in case of the weather not cooperating. The forecast has been changing rapidly over the past few days so maybe we get lucky and it's not as bad as currently projected.

We're not gonna let it spoil our day though!

I'm the opposite of you, nothing really bothers me while flying, but even I thought that landing yesterday was super rough. It was obviously an IFR landing, and when we popped out of the clouds it was basically "slam it down and throw those #%£€ing brakes on HARD"

Just thought of a question. Would be nice to hear from the horses mouth exactly what the difference between tour issue vs. retail heads is. Is it just the cherry picked hot and open retail heads or something entirely different.

Not exactly apples to apples but I've got a tour issued R1 but shallow faced model....so obviously it wasn't released retail. Seems to be slightly more solid and consistent. ....but that could also be an open faced factor for my game.....even saying that , I've had success with closed face drivers.....guess this didn't help!

My coach Jeff Gallagher told me they use QUALITY metal for TI over retail when I asked him about it. Not sure how accurate that is but *shrug*

So they use NON-QUALITY metal for the heads us schlubs get!?

I would assume TM uses a quality Titanium alloy for their retail product with a more economical price to help with product costing. Tour product could use an alloy that has greater strength and provides a more consistent and higher CT/COR (due to the higher swing speeds of tour players, in general) but may have a considerable higher cost point as well. Not economical for the thousands of heads produced for retail.

I'd say it's unlikely that TM will provide you the exact titanium alloy for retail versus tour, if this is the case, but they may confirm that tour product has a different face material.

This is more of what I meant, I didn't mean to imply they give us retail people junk, haha. Thanks for the clarification QF!

Need an anti-rain dance from you guys. Looking kind of soggy so far.

Sucks it's raining, but I imagine TM has a good backup plan for you guys.

I love these threads and can't wait to read more on your guys' trip! Enjoy!
