Rory wishes he had GolfWRX knowledge of golf balls and ball flight characteristics. That would make his choice so much easier.

Apparently Srixon balls "hold their line in a crosswind" -probable 20 handicap from their commercial

ProV1 sucks so bad it's BY FAR the #1 ball on tour. It's not even close.

You don't actually think its popularity has something to do with its superior quality rather than the fact Titleist is paying more players to play their ball than anyone else, do you?

Uh oh... that may not have been a good marketing idea in retrospect. :)

All the manufacturers pay players to use their ball.

...unless they aren't.

There are some guys (notably most of the ex-Nike staffers) that are using balls without contracts right now.

Is there anybody that really believes the paycheck from Titleist is enough to keep the guys playing their ball instead of

using a ball that is better for them?

These guys want to win. It's where all the money is. Endorsements follow winners. A tour pro is going to play the ball

that works best for him regardless of which ball it is (except maybe Bubba).

Period.

I'm not necessarily a TM fanboy, but one telling thing about their woods is that several Nike guys have switched to them without a contract.

They still get paid to game it. there is a chart that ive personally seen starts with OWGR then its made cut top 25, top 10, top 5 & win bonuses. All companies do it but TM is the most aggressive to keep up club counts

A lot of people don't know this, but those divots he took behind the ball on 12 flew directly into the hole.

True. That is certainly the case for pros on smaller tours who are trying to scrape together any money they can get. But for top PGA Tour pros without a contract, the money earned from playing a TM over, say, a Cally is fairly inconsequential.

A ball company will pay a player to play their ball and then make a ball to match his preferences. If you look at the USGA conforming balls list, there's 6 different versions of the Pro V1 and Pro V1x respectively. That's 12 versions of Titleists top models for players to chose from, and I'm sure that they are happy to come up with even more versions if it means they can claim another top player chose Titleist over another brand.

(The same is true for any other brand as well, e.g. there's 5 or 6 versions of the Srixon Z Star as well.)

Taylor made pays the most players to play their woods as well yet i never see those accusations on here

That's because I haven't stumbled upon a thread where someone claims that TM are the best woods because they are the most used woods on the your, yet... ;)

It has been said many times the majority of players on tour are cashing pay checks. They are not out there trying to leave a legacy. So I do think players play what they can get paid for playing. That doesn't lessen the quality of any product but most selections are made based on $$. It is the fans that need the validation that their equipment is the best.

I think a lot of them like money, and will play what pays.

Rory might as well set up an account here and start flipping stuff on the BST under an alias. First, it's the irons, then the woods, now the ball. When on tour, it's always the arrow and never the Indian. While he's revamping everything, he might as well update his attire so as to avoid any more collarless pink shirts.

Don't forget he also flipped his fiance.

Probably 3/4 of the top 25 are playing for a legacy. Then probably 1/4 players players outside the top 25 and as high as 150ish, under the age of 30, are playing for a legacy. The rest, this their job. Either the game comes easy to them and this an easy paycheck or the game is a grind though they enjoy that paycheck at the end of the week.
