Best hybrids, old or new

Amazing to see all the love for Cobra DWS hybrids.... they really were awesome! Kind of makes me want to put'em back into play. I currently game a 27* G25, 22* Srixon h45 and 19* XROS 16 hybrid and I really struggle to say which one I like the best! At the moment I lean towards the g25 but I'm not sure if that's because of the higher loft... trying to pick up a 3 or 4 g25 to compare. The h45 and XR are both great as well but there seems to be a little something special about the G25.

PING G10 hybrid. It's the oldest and most trusted club in my many bags. So solid and long. I've never hit a club so consistently.

Two relative oldies in my bag:

Mizuno JPX-850: A bit more mini-fairway than chunky iron in appearance (also, sexy as hell blue crown). Not draw-biased in the least. The "shockwave sole" makes the club feel super soft and springy, which takes some getting used to, but is actually really cool once you're used to it. I'm not sure that it's the longest, but it hits the ball high and (for me, anyway) actually hits the ball straight. My 3h (19º) carries about 225-230 (Driver SS: ~112), and it can hold most greens from that range if I can hit them.

Adams DHy: Vintage 2011 or so. A tricked-up driving iron-replacement from before they were cool. It's an ugly little sh*t of a club. I use one as a 4 iron replacement (21º). Mine goes about 210 from play, and a bit longer off the tee because I can swing out of my shoes with it. So, so, so much easier to get consistent height and distance out of than a 4i from anywhere other than the tee, and longer from the tee. Lighter head and graphite shaft, coupled with the shallow face and reasonable width mean it's playable with no concern from fairway or rough. It eats second shots on short par 5's for breakfast.

The Mizuno is a personal favorite of mine, but I consistently swear that the Adams must be the club that I most frequently think to myself "that dude should get one of these". They make them in 18º as well as 21º, but it's the 24º that I often think would make people's lives so much easier when they fear the sight of their own 5 irons.

I still play the titleist 585h with s300. It's older and the face isn't hot like the newer stuff, but it doesn't hook like other hybrids. Just feels like a 7 iron to me. Newer hybrids look and feel like little fairway wood which I hate. It's too easy to overcook them right and especially left.

I just got an M4 3H and have played 2 rounds with it.... it took one round for it to kick my old RBZ Stage2 Tour out of the bag.... which I thought was basically impossible. In fact, it's so good that I got an M3 4H on order (would have gone with the M4 on that one, but wanted the loft adjustability to tweak the gapping on the 4H).

I like the Cobra DWS, Ping Anser and G400 but I keep going back to the Titleist 816 H1 hybrids. I have the 19° and 23° and they are so easy to hit. Plus the adjustability allows me to set them up to avoid the lefts.

Though i've owned quite a few various brands over the years, my vote (and the only one, probably lol) goes to the TNT Survivor hybrid.

Probably about 15-17 years old now (a 19* model) and still beating out everything I throw at it. Classic shape (not to hefty or thin), no huge draw bias (even with the stock(!) shaft) and still as long as any current offering. Also very playable from all lies.

One of those clubs that I'll keep around for life.

As you read through the thread I think every hybrid made is listed somewhere. It sort of proves that there really isn't a bad hybrid out there and they're all pretty good. Maybe some subtle differences in Aesthetics but I think the technology is the same throughout the industry. Moving the center of gravity around to create the desired ball flight. Most hybrids keep their center of gravity low and deep to create a larger sweet spot and higher ball flight.

This, IMHO, is the best answer, however, it's all about having confidence in your long clubs. The tech may all be similar, but you have to find what suits your eye and gives you the most confidence sitting behind the ball. Something that's perfect for you, for whatever reason in someone else's brain, doesn't work for them-no wrong answers. Trying lots of clubs to find what best suits your eye is probably one of the most fun things to do for a wrx club Ho...lol

Seems like I have a different feel for hybrids than some. I see the Callaway Apex listed a lot as “best ever, hands down” but, for me, it was the single worst hybrid I’ve ever put my hands on. I gamed a Cleveland Mashie with the Gliderail for a long time and still have it. Almost have to try and not hit it straight to get it to move. Just dead bullets, but not the longest. Moved to a M4 Hybrid this year and picked up 20 yards, for real. Took me a bit to get used to it as I sprayed it for a while and almost went back to the Cleveland but I think I’ve finally grooved a swing with it and it’s fantastic. Great from the tee, fairway or rough and loooooong. My 3H is the highest club in my bag outside of my Driver. But as others have said, try them! Find what works for you.

Reviving this thread, if only to be the first to mention the Ping i25 hybrid. No hybrid I've tried looks better, sets up better, or feels better. Just hit it like an iron and it's money. And the stock PWR 80 stiff shaft is a great match.

Over the last two years I've had Cobra F7, Ping G400, and Titleist 818 H2 in the bag. I can say hands down that the H2 is my favorite club in the bag. I don't see it going anywhere anytime soon, with that being said I am about to order a PXG 0317 to give it a shot at 19*. My 5 wood experiment was a disaster... if I don't get along with the PXG there is no doubt I'll be looking at a H2 for the 19.

I've had a mizuno JPX 825 in the bag for years and couldn't ask for anything more. Looks great, sounds great, great flight for me, and I trust it.
