The only good things about the fox broadcast is the amount of golf shown and the shot tracer, the latter of which isn't even all that helpful sometimes. Honestly can't stand any of the fox guys, especially azinger. He's like a rich man's Gary McCord with more experience - his little sayings and quips are dreadful. I found myself wishing to hear Miller which is really saying something. I'll take CBS with Faldo, Nantz, and company any day of the week.

After watching the entire open and listening to him more than I have in the past, I think Paul comes off friendly enough, he just needs to dial it back a bit... you don't really need to try to offer up something about every single thing going on during the tournament.

This is where golf coverage has gone off the rails. Constant, relentless over-hype. It wasn't always like this.

I like Zinger and Johnny Miller. Maybe I'm weird

No you're not weird...I don't know Zinger, but I had lunch with Miller...one of the nicest guys you'll ever meet. Great golfer, father, family man !!! #golflegend :)

Just ask him.

You don't have to ask him. He'll tell you.

no he won't

Like a poster above. I have spent real time with Miller and he is awesome .. and humble. Golf in a sim, US Open chatting, lessons, etc etc

I must live in bizarro world as well. Miller and Zinger are awesome. Zinger was one of the great pro's to me (as was Johnny) when I was a kid at the CDN Open. The tools were Trevino and Jake. His chewbacca comment was awesome, I use that and monkey chaw all the time.

I like all ex-players as commentators. Fax was solid ..... PO and IBF on CBS also good.

Enjoy hearing insight from anyone that has been in the trenches and succeeded ... Like DD. Tell it like it is, don't get flowery on me for the love of Christmas

A sycophant like Nantz to me is like nails on a chalkboard. I get that he has to kiss up to The Masters billionaires but when he started talking about his lovely bride and Pebble wedding I wanted to rifle my crystal single malt tumbler at the TV. And I love that tumbler (it's from Muirfield)

Johnny Miller is humble now? Please tell me more about Johnny Miller being humble. Then I'd like to hear about your sightings of Bigfoot.

I would seriously LOVE for someone to post several, (or even a few) of the supposedly THOUSANDS of instances where Johnny Miller bragged on himself. There MUST be some video out there somewhere, for goodness' sake. I heard about it on WRX, so it must be true. Even if you include the instances where he was ASKED about a personal accomplishment, I don't think you'll find many.

I think it is a bit hypocritical to condemn JM for being self-serving when so many on this site post about their best round ever, first time breaking par or first time shooting in the 60's.

Post up the videos of JM and I'll post mine of Bigfoot. I'll have to convert it from 8mm, though. :D

I like both Miller and Azinger just fine. However something seems a little forced with Azinger's colloquialisms. I have a feeling that he is encouraged by Fox to do it and that about three more USGA broadcasts from now, they are going to break out with their "Zinger" segments like the Brownie Points. They are just building the library.

Zinger is a no BS guy. If you like people who are politically correct, you won't like him. I don't like stuff sugar coated so I love him.

Politically correct has taken on a new meaning in this day and age. It's annoying. Azinger being "no BS" on a golf broadcast has nothing to do with political correctness.

Miller and Zinger? They're okay, I guess.

I think they should promote that prehistoric-looking, bushy eyebrow touting Shane Bacon. His post-play US OPEN "chats" at Erin Hills with the players were nothing short of magnificent.

My only concern is that Shane, not having completely "evolved", might be more succeptable to the common cold than other normally evolved commentators.

Worth the risk. Solid interviewer.

I like zinger, he says some entertaining things and he really knows the game.

Those golf channel academies he did where he talks about his journey with the golf swing and all the teachers he worked with were easily the best of that series, just awesome. I would love to have a few beers with that guy and discuss the game and the golf swing.

To each their own though.

Couldn't agree more, one of the best

I don't get bashing these color commentators. They have to talk and describe shots for 6 hours, it's a lot easier said than done. Of course they are going to be repetitive and from time to time say something stupid. As long as they are interesting and honest, that's good enough for me.

The only color commentators I've ever really disliked were Tim McCarver and Dan Dierdorf.

+1

It's like they have cue cards of things to endlessly bring up whenever the opportunity arises. I guess if you say things repeatedly enough everyone will buy in? Announcers seem more like salesmen and storytellers than actual announcers.

Like you said, they are repetitive and say some stupid things. They've basically turned analysis into a putting contest of rehashed opinions. Some people demand more from a major championship.
