Ping putters

Thanks again for the feedback. I'm not a fan of putters on the softer side so I think I'll stick to the TR Anser 1966.

have you tried the Sigma range?

to me the Sigma feel is as responsive as the Vault, but much more solid.

I have an Oslo, and its beautiful, but hands down the Tyne Sigma G is a better putter in my opinion. Much better "pop"

You might get the best of both worlds of what you like with the TR and the heft of the Vault

Yeah I tried the Sigmas but they felt way too soft for me. I have a PING TR 1966 with a midsize PP58 grip and I really like it. I've tried a Sigma G Anser with the midsize PP58 and I didn't like the feel.

I would love to try the PING Vault Anser 2 or Voss with a midsize PP58 as many have said that it totally transforms the putter for the better. Unfortunately, I don't know anyone who has an Vault Anser 2 or Voss with a PP58 on it.

Ultimately, I would have to spend approximately $250 between getting the putter and either purchasing or custom ordering the the PP58 midsize grip. I can't really justify a €250 gamble but it's somewhat frustrating that I'm left wondering.

I would imagine, that if you asked the shop to let you try one with the right grip, they would.. one of them would anyway. The vault grip was, uh, different. I liked the shape and the size, but the texture and firmness was all wrong. the grip on the Sigma line is much better. to the point that I am going to replace it with the same grip more than likely...

I asked and they said they couldn't because if I put a different grip on and then put back on the stock grip, it wouldn't technically be a new putter. Accordingly they wouldn't be able to sell it as new. That's understandable to be fair.

Yeah regarding the grip, I understand that they were attempting to take from the Superstroke market but that Vault grip is one to forget.

One review that I read stated that the Vault range is very soft. While that is only one person's opinion, I do like putters on the slightly firmer side such as the TR Anser 1966.

If I managed to get my hands on Vault Anser 2 or Voss with the midsize PP58, I would be 70% sure that it wouldn't outperform my TR Anser 1966. The TR headweight is 340g whereas the Voss and Anser are 350g. The 340g headweight does suit me better as I feel that I have more control of the pace with 340g. That's further strengthens my claim that on paper that the TR Anser 1966 would feel better and perform better. But what being said, its the not knowing for sure that's killing me!

I've finally picked up my Redwood D66 back from Ping WRX. I don't think this will be leaving my bag any time soon.

Kept the paint fill fairly stock. Except anything that was silver originally I changed it to G400 Copper.

I'm also on with the TR Anser 2 1966. I like the lighter head. I also have a Scotty Art of Putting Newport 2, that's also on the lighter side. I payed an old Anser 2 on and off for many years. I keep coming back after much experimentation. That "Ping" thing just works for me.

I love how the lighter head gives me control of the pace, particularly on the short ones. I have been saying on here today and yesterday that I'm very tempted to roll a PING Vault blade with a PING midsize grip.

However, I'm putting very well with my Anser TR 1966 for my standards. If it isn't broken, I probably shouldn't try to fix it.

Ping putters on my list to collect right now are the Redwood Anser, Anser Milled and the Vault Anser. I got a nice Milled 0, with the Vault next on the list. A lightly used Redwood will be tough to find.

This putter should be on your list as well. It's the TR Anser 1966 that came out last year. Its similar to the Anser Milled 0 but it's slightly better in every category IMO.

A couple of my Ping putters - Anser 2 (current gamer) and newly purchased Scottsdale Anser BeNi. Man I love PING. Made in U.S.A! Karsten was a genius. Anyone else like the old stone washed look of the cast putters?

I bought and sold a Nickel Anser. That's one I wish I had back.

Anser Milled 0 for me. Its perfectly balanced and feels great.

I may have a new favorite. I played yesterday with a new acquisition, a 90's remake of the bronze Anser. Love it. Looks cool, well balanced, feels great. Gee, sounds like the reasons I like the Anser 0. I guess I like the old appearance.

As I understand it, from contacts to PING, Jim Wells was for many, many years, the man who "built" the putters for PING staff Tour players.

The putters at some point in time started being stamped with a serial number, all starting with 'JW' to designate Jim Wells, the production year, then the putter specific code for player specs etc.

There are reports that these putters are "PING property" and if sent back will be kept however I haven't had that verified by PING people to say with certainty.

At some point in the circle of life PING changed from stamping the face wth the serial number to a laser etch like mine is. Mine begins with JW15... which would mean a 2015 production.

It's reported that at some point in time Mr Wells either retired, or semi-retired, or changed positions within PING but would still do putters for certain players or PING VIPs by request.

At any rate, in a nutshell, it's very hard to confirm a true PING "tour" club most of the time.

A putter with a JW prefix' serial number is basically a guarantee.

I like this one because it's a 2015 production but uses the old head shape, appearance, and style. Maybe it's available that way via WRX, I don't know. The price would've been the same probably going through them and this one is an authentic Jim Wells creation.

Blah blah blah. Lol.

I'm with you. Back to the Redwood Piper S. I love the way the putter is rigid along the topline but flows everywhere else. It fits my eye to be sure...

Love the Pipers. The Sigma Piper 3 is really nice if you like a smallish mid-mallet half-moon shape. Granted, I love a half-moon shape every time, and this one feels great.

I love Jim Wells Pings and am lucky enough to have one of my own. Hope to add more someday.

They're generally tour customs for specific players, but I remember reading on a thread here a while ago that he also (occasionally) did custom work for Ping WRX for random retail customers - you'd have to be very lucky to get one though! I presume the serial wouldn't have quite the same format as there would be no prefix letter signifying a specific tour, but I've not seen one so can't be sure. Mine is a Japanese tour steel Scottsdale Anser.
