McIlroy misses the cut for the second week in a row ... shame for the sponsors and the spectators.

 

He had it in his hand today after 3 birdies in his first 7 holes, but let it squirm out with a nasty double on 13th (for the second day in a row) and then failed to make birdie at the last, hitting it miles left despite only having a mid iron into the green, and then failing to get up and down, rather predictably missing a makeable putt. In the end wouldn't have mattered as the cutline moved up to 1-under, so he missed by two shots.

Been at Dundonald today. Better course to play than spectate. Saw some good, but not spectacular play and there was zero atmosphere. Course in superb condition and the greens and surrounds were magnificent surfaces. The highlight was the fantastic display of bunker shots, from all sorts of lies. A joy to behold.

Looks like he's practicing the first two steps of the cha cha during the swing. I would love to see him rise from the ashes with that move or at least get him primed for The Open.

Didn't look easy out there and Rory seemed to suffer on his back nine when the wind picked up. He did hole some good putts but I think he's having trouble controlling his wedges. I haven't played them but have heard that the milled grind wedges are very firm feeling. Seemed his distance control was off. I wouldn't write him off for next week at Birkdale though. Never played this course but have played most in the area and there are some cracking courses.

If I had been down there today, I would have gone out with the Scott & Stephen Gallagher group, would have seen plenty of golf, Scott looking like he has a putt on 18 for a 78 and Gallagher needing to hole a good putt on the last to shoot 79.

That's it, I don't think Portstewart is that much easier than Dundonald but there wasn't a breath of wind last week, scores were nearing and above 20 under, some wind this week and it's a different story. Giving big winds next week, so that should be interesting. Could be near level par again if it blows like expected.
