Taylormade P730

My guess for TW's Irons when he returns (guessing Hero in December) is his own version of the P730 (TW Protos? Maybe his logo in Red then Proto next to it in White?) combined with input from Mike Taylor (formerly of the Oven). Same thing with his Milled Grind Wedges in regards to Bounce (he'll have his normal Tour Issue X-100's for the Irons/S400's for the Wedges & GP TV Cord grips) & will guess he'll have the P790 UDI 2-Iron with the PxI in it.

 

So, the TW logo isn't Nike property and it's owned/licensed by Tiger? I guess I always assumed it was a Nike thing, but it would look awesome on a set of 730s...

 

It may be owned by Nike (not really sure) but I guess TM could do the TW in Red in the same font as the Rory or Rose Protos or maybe they would call them the Tiger Protos?

The milled wasn't exactly the optimal material for Rory or Rose. 304 stainless steel has been tried by many component companies but they have always stopped using them because they were too malleable.

 

The only reason 304 was used is because it is the grade of metal that most closely resembles forged carbon steel in the Rockwell hardness scale, but 304 is cheap, malleable, and changes the loft/lie specs of irons especially with players of high swingspeeds.

 

Rory can blame his wedding and injuries for all his bad play of late, but if you check it all out, his iron stats have dropped and everything started when he switched to the 304 stainless steel (cast then milled) protos.

 

Well three things:

 

1. This is a case where the end-consumer (us!) get a product better than the prototypes the pros use.

2. Rory and Rose have since switched to the fully forged model and have ditched those cast 304 stainless that were milled in house.

3. There is no way that Dustin with his swingspeed and frequency of practice would even bother gaming the cast 304 stainless proto. I am betting he will use the production 730.

They were making DJ's irons when we were at TaylorMade for the forged trip. He hasn't switched b/c he doesn't want to do so during the season. He's going to start testing them and will make a decision after the Presidents Cup.

DJ has some options...milled on-site here in Carlsbad (same as Rory and Rose) or forged with plating.

Agreed. I remember when people were saying the P750's were going to a LE release. The P730's will be a full bore release.

Yep. Supply could very well be constrained initially, but there's no way this is a limited product based on what Tomo said while making the rounds to support the launch. They don't refresh their blade very often, so when they do there has to be improvements, etc. It certainly didn't sound like the way someone would talk about a limited product.

All the shafts that are currently offered by TM, at least in the P series, are offered in the P730's

Anyone had a chance to demo a set of these? I saw on a AZ golf shop IG that they had demo sets availabe now.

 

I checked TM website and they offer nearly any shaft at no up-charge. Even Modus 130 shafts. This honestly has my considering getting a set if they offer these shafts. It's a shame Mizuno doesn't.

Maybe I'm missing something since Mizuno lists their specs in inches and TMag lists them in millimeters, but isn't this the other way around? It appears to me that these have less offset than the MP18s, but maybe I'm converting the numbers wrong. I am American after all and we generally suck with the metric system.
