Taylormade P730

What sold me is that I wrote DJ’s sport agency for my son who kissed him on the weekend at Erin Hills and he sent an awesome genuine autographed 8x10. So yes I’m a buyer now! Haha these irons just look great. I saw the cally MB’s and while they were nice looking they just didn’t grab my attention

Can’t go wrong with either the Callys or P730’s looks wise. They are both gorgeous to look at!

Very true, however the Apex MBs will be unmatched in forgiveness. That muscle near the bottom will have no competition. Possibly MP-5s.

It’s a blade. No blades are forgiving and they aren’t meant to be.

Not exactly... some are more forgiving then others: Callaway Tour Proto, Razr MB, MP-5s,900 Tours (not a true blade but close enough),Cobra ACP,Ben Hogan Ft Worths, and rumors are the Apex MB are very forgiving (compared to other blades: 965,716/718,VR Pros, J15MB, CB1,Muira baby blades, etc.)

As a TM guy now, is he really going to show up with different irons/wedges/putter, just play TM woods?

I would have to think he'll be in TM woods/irons/wedges and a Scotty Cameron putter for the Hero per the terms of his deal.

The chatter on these after a few weeks is cringe-worthy, couldn't justify them on that basis alone. Need a better finish and they'd be the gamers for sure.

I am also concerned by the bag chatter. Hopefully the final product has a different finish than the irons played by the pros.

Get some iron covers if your worried:)

You buy forged blades with a chrome finish—especially ones with wide flat ares like these—you're going to get bag chatter. If the chrome finish was harder and more durable everyone would complain about the feel.

Don't get me wrong, I like my stuff to look nice, but these are the ultimate expression of "tools not jewels." The players who should be playing these probably aren't too concerned about bag chatter.

I play MP-4s currently and know that a bit of bag chatter is normal (and I use iron covers....). However in an earlier post someone stated that the testers were complaining about heavy bag chatter in a very short time, due to the softness of the metal / plating. Therefore I hope that the plating of the final product would be a bit more resistant. I was set on the new MP-18 MB / SC, but these are really nice, and after Shield's video.... The only worry I have is the bag chatter. I know it is silly, but I like my stuff to look nice.

I have had my P730s since Tuesday this week and had the MP18s for the last month or so (I ordered both sets unseen and unhit). Well the MP18s have been sold!

The P730s look better to my eye, feel better (very Endo or even Kyoei like in that they are dense, soft yet crisp and the MP18s feel almost mushy in comparison). I will say though that you may need to rethink shaft choice for these as they launch the ball higher than other blades I’ve owned and gamed.

The channel milled out the back certainly provides a modicum of forgiveness on high and low strikes in the face but as you would expect anything out towards the toe gets punished from a distance loss perspective.

These may well be the best players iron TM have ever produced including the 2005 RAC TPs and the Smoke MBs.

Selling the Mizzy’s for the TM’s. You don’t hear or see that happen very often...

Said the MP-18s were "mushy"... now that's a first for someone to complain that an iron is TOO soft. The Mizuno fan boys are going to get out the torches and pitchforks for him selling a set of MPs for a TM iron.

Let them pitch-fork me, burn me, or tar and feather me - only speaking the truth :superman: I actually really liked the MP18s but when put against the P730s head to head, for me the winner was very clear. I guess it all depends on what sort of feedback and feel you want from an iron. I like a dense yet crisp feel (ala Kyoei forgings and Endo) which I got from the TMs versus the feeling of Mizunos and Miura's (which I also think tend to be "mushy" or ultra-muted).

Oh bugger now I have offended the Miura fanbois too.................... :busted_cop:

I also hit the new Callaway Apex MBs which also felt great - nice short blade length too, but too much offset for my eye. Cally still have figured out the transition from hosel to heel to hide the offset they have in the shorter irons.

Hit these a couple days ago against the callaway mb. Anyone else find the callaway clicky? I thought the p730 felt better and sounded better. With that said, neither are better than the VR pro blades I have sitting around

Hit the 7 iron today at my local GG. These things are absolute beauties. They’re super consistent if you hit the sweet spot. But like any blade, you get punished if you miss. They felt great and looked perfect at address. Really thinking about picking up a set this winter to mess around with. Maybe just go with the full 4-PW set or put together a combo set with my current 770s and get the 730s bent 1 degree strong so my current yardage gaps don’t get spread out. Very excited at this offering from TM!
