An Eight Club Golf Bag

I have a Callaway carry bag with XTT (Xtra Traction Technlogy). I think this means it sticks to the ground quite well when I put it down. I'm assuming other bags without this technology must slip over all the time.

Went out for my first proper round...I had 12 clubs in the bag...

12 clubs is my standard bag. I don't see the need for any more...

12 is the most I ever have regardless of walking or carting. I prefer less wedges and at the other end I get to a point were no matter what I'm trying to hit they go roughly the same distance give or take a few yards. Just went for the most consistent one and accepted that I'm not going to be hitting par 5s in two. I'll lay up chip on and be happy with birdie or par.

Just got the Titleist Premium Carry Bag and with 8 clubs it's a breeze to carry. I was forced to ride the other day, put the 6,8 and PW back in the bag. It actually rode quite well, the little feet on the bottom of the bag allowed it to hang perfectly on the back of the cart.

I have an old Titleist with one strap that has worked pretty well when I've used it. I need to start doing more practice rounds with less clubs to get out of playing golf swing and get back to manufacturing shots. Might also help getting around faster during the cold spring rounds haha.

A true challenge for me was to only put 3 balls in the bag. Haven't run out yet, but was down to 1 last week already!

Haha that would often see me walking back to the car park after a couple of holes.

what tees do you play? I might be able to go 12 and drop the 4&5(pending no 200-220 yr par 3). I don't think this is realistic for 6800yr+ courses

It's a mindset. Personally for me, a minimalist set is easier on a longer course. Why? You know it's driver all day, and any mid iron can get you near/on the green, then it's just your favorite wedge for getting up and down. On a shorter course you're so much closer to the green and it is easy to start feeling like you're not hitting it close because you're not carrying the correct wedge/ short iron.

mine is 6300ish. I think you could do it easily, and find you are not missing too many gaps. If your witb is current just consolidate 3w and 3iron into one club (4w?5w?2iron?), play your 5,7,9 iron, drop down to 2 wedges, and you are set.

What are you guys using for golf bags?

If only carrying 8ish clubs I prefer my Mackenzie. The stand bags and dual straps seems a little overkill.

I also have a SM 2.5+ and a Jones Utiliy Stand that is on the way if I want to carry more or if it’s wet and I want a stand.

Interesting review. I have been going back and forth between picking up the Titleist Premium and a Ping Moonlight.

I'm very happy with this bag so far, much less aggravating than my push cart.

Played 8 clubs all weekend long, golf trip with the buddies in vegas.

I'm used to it and have playing this bag (with a constant carousel of wedges trying to knock my 56 f grind out.... maybe a md4???) And played at 6800, 6500 and another 6800. Won cash against some good competition in the wind.

They chuckled on the first tee on the first day, but when I explained the logic they began seeing that.... it's different, not worse.

I don't hate on people playing full bags. They saw me hit a 15 yard slinger to a 210 par 3 with a 4i, then 3 holes later, hit the same 4i to a 180 yard par 3. Hit both greens. 3 putted one of them.

It's a mindset.

My brain damage was significantly less in the wind than theirs was though.

Played today in Chicago (55 deg. plus 20+ mph gusts - but hey no snow!)

Macgregor AT2W. 2 wood

4 wood

Hogan Apex irons. 4, 5, 7, 9 irons

Hogan SI BeCu 56 deg. sand wedge

Ping Kushin putter

I'm not a long hitter - gaps on these clubs seem to work pretty well with my game.

Just an older guy with 7 or 8 clubs and a MacKenzie Sunday Walker bag

Well, it's official. I will be moving from Las Vegas to st. pete/tampa. Other than, selling a house, finding a job and sorting out a 4 day drive with my wife and a cat in the truck.... my biggest concern is....

Bermuda and fluffy sand.

Might get interesting for my trusty f grind and my 2 iron (as I'm assuming I'll lose some chase on that dog).

It is very course specific too. I'm thinking I'd be better served with my current game to drop the driver and the 64 and play a 1&2 iron MP-14 for tight courses. Works out to be 18 & 21° lofts.

4 specialist wedges is a lot in most 14 club setups so it's a lot in an 8 club bag. But each to their own, what works for you etc.

As for a 21° 2 iron I like it. That' a 3 iron in my setup and a 4 iron in most modern sets.
