Tiger vs Phil for $10mil

How about this format? They both show up in their favorite personal ride. The winner gets the title. Then the loser’s clubs...and it has to be the real clubs (with maybe a pass for Tiger’s old putter) get auctioned off for charity with a 10 fold match from the sponsor.

I could only watch something so banal and contrived if there was really something on the line that each would really be bothered by losing. Something they personally coveted like a dream car. The only potential issue there could be that Phil would show up in an Enclave. Or an Aztek.

Too much money, suggests to me the money is the hype more than the aging stars, or they just want to get paid.

Would probably watch, but not on my list of can't miss golf events for sure.

no worse than watching your favorite NFL or NBA team each week

I don’t understand the 15 years ago argument. If anything golf is the one sport that is the most immune to age. Sure they aren’t the golfers that they once were, but they are 100% the competitors that they always have been. That’s what it is all about. Tiger vs Phil. Neither may be able to beat the field or the course on a consistent basis anymore, but I’d love to seen them go after each other on the big stage.

So who cares if they’re not at their golfing peak? It’s not like they’re 70 years old. It doesn’t matter that it won’t be rounds of 59-61 and a masterclass. For me it would be about entertainment and competition.

you are the ideal target market of the promoters for this..

..but aside from the entertainment and competition value here many of us also want to see athletes performing at their peak IF the cost is something affordable..

i have no idea yet how much this will cost to watch live or on site but i definitely am not willing to pay big bucks for it and will just watch the delayed telecast for free when available..

it's the sponsors who will have to be convinced that this is worth it for them anyway..

i guess my attitude is like.."it's an ok event but i'd rather watch a Major or pay for a blockbuster movie anytime...or even a Pacquiao match,,"

If it's on normal broadcast TV I definitely would watch at least some of it. If it's some type of pay per view I definitely would pay to watch.

Has it been established that it would be on network television and not some premium channel or ppv?

I would pay to watch a rematch of Els vs.Marino on a G5.

Or maybe have a few matches on various private planes...

1. Bradley vs. Jimenez on a Cessna Citation

2. Vijay vs. Phil on a Boeing Business Jet

3. Kang vs. Dahmen on a Southwest flight (they can't afford private, can they?)

I'm sure they're are many others people can come up with...I don't know all the dirty laundry and rivalries on tour!

Iti's worth a watch simply because they guys can still hit shots and Shadow Creek is an awesome golf course; should show up fantastic in 4K TV.

I would actually be surprised if the match does happen at Shadow Creek given how averse they are to being n the spotlight, but I guess a match for $10M goes a long way.

Of course it would be better if these two played for their own money. And that can still happen. Do the $10M or whatever for charity, as others pointed out it is sponsor money, and any "nerves" felt by these two over $10M is just acting. On the side, just play one of Phil's favorites of $100 match with auto 1 down presses. Loser has to pay at 18th green. I know this will be tough for Tiger to actually have cash in his pocket, so Joe can hold it, but if he loses he has to personally hand it over to Phil. For big shot Phil, a stash of 100s is just how he rolls, no big deal.

No one wants to peel cash to another golfer on 18, it sucks, doesn't matter if it is $500 or $5...losing sucks.

Thankfully this will not an a USGA event with tucked pins and silly speed; wherever they play just put most pins in the middle, 1 or 2 driveable par 4's, reachable in two par 5s. We want to see the birdie fest and who putts with nerves of steel.

What if they both show up with no game? That would be a borefest.

I remember watching Nicklaus steamroll Miller in a made for tv game...both past their primes...but tons of people watched anyway.

People will come...oh yes...people will most definitely come!!

But I just read no one cares about two guys past their prime.
