MD/DC/VA Golfers - Twelve Monkeys Mental Divergence

Use 1 more club than you think on 3.

12 is a postition hole. From the blues, I hit 3 wood and try to keep it just inside the pine tree down the right side. This will get me past the mounds and into the fairway around 180 in.

I've haven't played the tips out there in a long time. I don't have that length anymore. The blues are plenty for me.

Fact. Had an 8 footer back down that hill from 30 out when I played. Stupid fast putt down the slope

Going long on 3 stinks, but first priority on second shot is clearing the hazard. Seriously, if you make a bogey, I guarantee you're gaining strokes on the net field. Problem is that if you REALLY fly the green, you're going to have a hard time making bogey. Much easier third shot if you clear the hazard but are short of the green. Good bailout is right on second shot, but that's a tough 3rd if the pin is left side.

12, now that I hit the ball better than I used to, I'm not intimidated by laying up to 185 at the top of the hill. The thing about 12 is that it's not a bad shot if you go through the fairway. It's the rough and it's a little downhill, but it's also like 130. The money shot is like a bunt cut that starts right at the bunker. The shot into the green. . .if you're not very confident about getting the ball to the pin, bail out is right edge of green.

I don't mind getting aggressive to any middle pin or back left pin. The up and down from the back is much easier than the up and down from short.

If second shot goes in hazard, there's a drop area.

I hit my only really good drive of the day on 12 yesterday, but I picked what turned out to be a HORRIBLE line from the back tee. I played it dead over that tree on the right, and just flushed it. I was about 8-10 inches from being in the long stuff through the fairway. I had a horrible lie, on a big downhill slope. It was a miracle I got enough club and loft on it to clear the hazard. That hole was one of many dubs I made yesterday.

I am playing WoMan on Saturday morning with my dad, Christian, and Dom. I get to play about once a year with my dad, so I'm really looking forward to that. Plus it'll be a good practice round for Sunday's Main Event.

I would totally buy their 5 year membership if it was not an hour away from me. It's like $8,500 for 5 years. Comes out to ~$142 a month.

I had a box arrive yesterday, but have not opened them. I assume Costco will be pretty good accepting returns?

Haha. It’s all good. Others have chimes in but I’m happy to help. Others have mentioned hole 9 but depending on whether you are a long hitter and I am not. Generally when you laser the end of the fairway, you got to lay up at least 20 yards short of that since it’s big time downhill. Hole 2 I generally hit hybrid to be in the center of the fairway. Hole 3 I hit driver and second shot is always needs a more club since it’s uphill. Hole 4 is straight forward. Hole 5 pull driver and see if you can hit a fade and let it run out. Hole 6 always gets me with the water so I bail right. Hole 7 take it over the bunker and I usually hit hybrid. Hole 10 I use hybrid and hit a cut off the bunker. Hole 11 hit a shorter hybrid to avoid the bunker on the right. Hole 12 usually hit hybrid and hybrid to get to the green. Hole 18 I generally take the lower route since it’s split fairway. Greens are good so make sure to look at it from all sides.

Speaking of balls, Titleist is coming out with a cheaper (than the ProV line) urethane ball next month. I think it's going to be $40/dozen so not as cheap as the KSigs. I think it's like a cross between the AVX and the ProV1. It has the soft feel of the AVX but spin characteristics closer to the ProV1.

I like the AVX but it really isn't the best fit for me. The EXP seems to be a better fit so I'm going to give it a long try once I can find some more.

Agreed. I don’t understand it. I recently tried the TP5X on Sunday at BlueMash. Pretty good ball but with my hurt thumb couldn’t really get a great idea how the ball performed. I know that HBD plays it and he’s mentioned that he likes it. I’m looking for low driver spin and good irons and wedge spin. I’m not a wedge player that can spin back balls so I’m not interested in that.

IMO the Tp5x is the closest to what gsrjc is describing. The Tp5x “practice” stamp deal sites have been offering this year have proved to be the best “bang for your buck” scenario I’ve come across this year.

Didn’t know this offer existed. I’ll have to check it out.

Does that include carts? Range? Except for paying upfront that's a damn good deal.

I’m pretty sure it includes all of the above. Wish I lived closer to WM. Almost want to copy Dom’s strategy and just deal with the drive.

I'm maybe 10 minutes. It might be worth a look. I was also looking at Holy Hills. I'm about the same distance there too.

Thanks.

Yesterday the 4 piece was on their site listed “out of stock” with a restock date of 10/15. Today the 4 piece disappeared from their website. I plan on returning the 10 dozen unopened today or tomorrow. Still have a few left from the box I opened and marked with a sharpie. Probably headed to woodmore again this afternoon. Will report back when I rip a few more covers off.
