GAPR sounds like a term an accountant or finance guy would use while trying to put you to sleep. It probably means the same thing as CAGR or COGS or FIFO.

Precision Pro - which is a WRX sponsor that makes lower cost rangefinders - had a cool post today. If you go to their website and take a 2 question survey about what brand rangefinder you use - they'll send you a new CR2 battery for your rangefinder. Doesnt matter if you use theirs or not.

 

Took about 60 seconds to fill out the survey this morning and just got a shipping notice.

We "trade" indigenous peoples day for the day after Thanksgiving.

 

There was a titleist rep at the course yesterday. I hit the G25 with the shaft chosen by gremlins. I'd just had a lesson and hit a bunch of balls and swing speed was about 98/99. Usually I can get up to about 101+.

 

He plugged in the TS2 with some shaft. Whack whack whackm

 

"eh... Try this one."

 

Ts3 with some other shaft. Whack whack whack.

 

"eh, let me see"...ts3 with another shaft maybe a head adjustment. Whack whack whack.

 

"OK, looks like the g25 is the winner" .

 

Then I hit a perfect bunt cut.... 90 mph, carry 190.

 

Lesson was good. Solely focused on the little extra slide/bump/extension I do at the top of the backswing. Worked on getting the right butt cheek against an alignment rod and keeping it there until the backswing was done. This is connected to integrating a better hip turn and removing a weight shift.

 

What was interesting was that when I swung "correctly" i never felt the overrun in my arms and wrists like I sometimes do. He indicated that that isn't so much a function of what I'm doing with my arms as much as it's getting sloppy with the lower body.

 

Very simple motion.

 

There's a really good clay Ballard video on YouTube that was basically the essence of the lesson.

Clay Ballard has some of the best golf stuff on YouTube. Short videos, very simple language, very easy to understand. He's one of the few golf people I still subscribe to.

What are some courses in this area (I live in Alexandria) that didn't get hurt by all the rain in July? I played Twin Lakes - Oaks a few weeks ago and the fairways and green are trash. I played Raspberry Falls and the fairways there are even worse. I practiced at Laurel Hill today and that looked nice as always, but what else?

 

dunno if you ever come up the 270 corridor, but if you do... in spite of the pace of play, little bennett's greens were actually okay. the fairways and rough needed to be cut, they'll probably be able to do that now that it's stopped raining for a couple days in a row. some of the tee boxes were trash tho. the previous week at pb dye, conditions were pretty good, so much better than i was expecting. likely even better now. blue mash has some serious issues right now, lots of mud and dead grass around the greens. greens are very hairy. northwest gc likely won't be good for another month, minimum.

 

 

hopefully some of the VA guys can chime in with course reports closer that are to you.

But, as I told the guys this weekend... The post-mortems and the media coverage is so much more fun when we lose.

 

When you lose, it gets talked about for 2 years. Changes are made. Everyone is questioned. Fingers are pointed. It's hilarious.

Saw that Bandon is hosing the 2019 fourball on Old Mac and Pac Dunes, and the 2020 Am on Bandon Dunes and Bandon Trails. Speaks to the quality of golf out there.

 

Old Mac is a crazy, really fun course. There can be some fun putts out there. Hope they do lots of TV coverage for that.
