Phil was a bad pick, but he's Phil Mickelson. There's no way he was left off when there's any sort of justification for leaving him on. He was 10th in Ryder Cup points, so there's your justification.

 

The only system tweak I'd like to see is a change to the way points are allocated for automatic qualifying. There's zero reason why Bubba's February 2018 win, or Spieth's February 2017 win, count for so much. Those two should have been in serious danger of missing the automatic spot. I'd put in some sort of decay where points earned recently count for more. Maybe H1 of 2017 counts for 1/4 point, H2 2017 is 1/2 point, H1 2018 is 3/4 point, and H2 2018 is 1 point.

 

I think we could use an analytical captain as well. The Euros apparently use data analysis (strokes gained, etc) to figure out who will pair well together. Along with personalities, that informs their teams. Again, pointing to Phil, there's no way a guy that's 150th in SG Off-The-Tee (with negative SG!) and 2nd to last in driving accuracy should be playing 4somes on that course.

 

Bubba won 3 times in 2018. There isn't (and shouldn't be) any formula that keeps him from qualifying for the team. Although it would be pretty cool if the Captain had one peremptory challenge -- he could kick off one of the automatic qualifiers off the team for whatever reason -- and gain an extra captain's pick.

Given all the high drama swirling potentially from the US team, no wonder they can't get their sh*t together. Euros just work better together, and it brings the best out of them regardless of current form. What are some courses in this area (I live in Alexandria) that didn’t get hurt by all the rain in July? I played Twin Lakes - Oaks a few weeks ago and the fairways and green are trash. I played Raspberry Falls and the fairways there are even worse. I practiced at Laurel Hill today and that looked nice as always, but what else?

Looks like Cobra is now doing full trial sets at home for the one lengths, I think I've been saying they need to do this for the last two years. Cant just have people try one or two clubs. For $20 they ship you a set, you keep it/use it for two weeks, if you dont like it they pay for the shipping back.

 

I dont know what sets/shafts they have available but IMO thats a good deal if you're looking to try it at home. In two weeks you could get a half dozen rounds or range time in.

Playoff baseball sucks for just this reason, the damn games start so freaking late for people that actually get up early and go to work - and dont want to be zombies the next day.
