Full shoulder turn - why so important

When I really make a full turn, my contact with the ball is infinitely better and more consistent.

If I don't make a full turn, I'm all over the place, mostly push woods and pull irons.

I can see the turn being related to power, but no idea why my contact is so much better. I suspect the answer is something about sequence, but unsure.

Probably because you're using the big muscles and not the little muscles.

 

Using a bigger shoulder turn as opposed to using more arms and hands has less variation in movement leading to more consistent contact.

I've wondered this same thing myself. I don't really turn my shoulders all that much. When I learned how to play as a kid, I didn't turn my shoulders much, and now every time I try to I corporate shoulder turn it feels incredibly awkward and I just can't hit the ball. Even with only roughly 75 degrees of shoulder turn, I get good distance and my ball striking is one of the better aspects of my game. But every pro who looks at my swing tells me I'm not coiling properly. I know doing so would help me, but no one has ever told me why it would.

Same on both. I just can't figure out why. You'd think more turn and backswing would make it harder to return to the pre-set static impact position, but the extra windup only helps.

Because a golf swing is like a figure skater, turn more on the inside and you get incremental speed farther from the body ,,, ie out at the club head

Same here. I went through this last night at the range. I tried to just hit easy shots and dial in distance, and then just got frustrated with chunk shots and mishits.

 

Started to do a full turn and nailed every shot. It's a weird feeling because it almost feels out of control and in my mind I have no idea how I'm going to get back to the ball at the right time, but it always manages to work out and make good contact.

Most of the time making a full turn with the chest/rib cage is more important than the shoulders. Typically gets the arms off the chest in the backswing and then gives arms room on the downswing.

A full turn that lets your chest remotely point at the sky gets you extended...(..my interpretation of monte s )...then it's bump, dump and turn

I find a full shoulder turn helps me accelorate smoothly from the top because I feel I have plenty of time to get up to speed. Those who feel they need to hit hard from the top would benefit from it.

That's me. I've been telling myself not to try and kill the ball. I've finally quantified it to a smooth transition. Smoothing out the transition still let's me get full club head speed at impact. Maybe that's why it works.

I, too, have an issue with not enough shoulder turn. However, instead of focusing on the shoulders my thought is now to turn my sternum over my back leg. If I think shoulders I tend to come over the top.
