Totally agree with you on the total weight. I had a Spider X for about 36 holes and went back to my Spider Tour Red. The Spider X was good for me on long putts but the added weight felt clumsy on shorter putts that required more touch. The weight difference isn't insignificant, the head is something like 73g's heavier than the previous model, so they were forced to pair it with a heavier counterbalanced shaft. I saw in one of the Tour and Pre-Release threads that some of the tour staff have the older, lighter stepped shaft in there and not the new CT shaft and am wondering if they have a different head as well, otherwise I would have to imagine they would feel like a sledgehammer.

I actually thought about removing the insert to see if I could eliminate the dampening material but didn't want to ruin the putter. I noticed on the TM site they mention the insert is softer on the X. So I have been toying with the idea of trying another 2017 back DJ model again. I did putt well with the original except for very long putts.

I thought the headweight came out to 355 just like the old models?

Finally saw the spider first major headcover. Glad I didn’t get it tbh just don’t care for it.

I played a course the other day that had (what appeared) to have sprayed their greens and fairways with green paint/sod. A little bit stained the insert, I grabbed a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser and some water and it came right off with a little elbow grease. Just a heads up if anyone gets sharpie marks, etc on the insert

This may be answered already....however ..is the taylormade spider x stock superstroke grip the new TRAXION superstroke grip? I have the new navy bid white stripe slant putter and the stock grip says PISTOL GTR 1.0. Please advise. Thanks!

I was watching a youtube review the other day (can't remember which one, sorry) that said it was the new Traxion grip. The Taylormade website does say it's the GTR 1.0 grip however.

I think it just uses similar materials to the traxion grip.

Trying to go back and review the last couple pages - seemed to be a preference for the gold over blue in terms of setup/performance? I like my Milspec Newports for a nice change of pace, but I will need to get back into some type of mallet putter once the season ramps up and the spider is up there in the running.

Second round walking with caddy and already have a paint chip or two. Head cover on majority of the time. Seems like it is the same (at best similar) cheap paint on the Spider Tour. Not the end of the world, but annoying nonetheless.

Clubs are at the course, but can do later in the week.

I bolded why you have paint chips. No paint is going to stand up to being banged around with other clubs.

Have had plenty of others hold up and not going to bird dog the caddy all day to ensure 100% use of head cover. Would just expect a better finish...not an invincible one, but certainly something a tad more durable.

I have played 6 rounds with my spider x and putting green time.

Still minty, gamed spider tour black before this and headcover always on when in bag.

Crazy that people have these issues.

Spider X has been excellent. Feel and performance have been outstanding. Very happy with the purchase of the Copper X.

I’m OCD about my gear so I think it is crazy the caddie didn’t put the headcover on before bagging your club. I have plenty of money tied up in my clubs and I take excellent care of them. I do understand they are “tools not jewels”. If I cause the damage, that’s one thing however if there’s a headcover for the club the least a caddie could do in put the thing on before stuffing the club in the bag.

Could not agree more. What about when he is carrying my putter, driver for the next tee, and taking the wedge I just hit? Head cover on? Even more awkward when he has the same for my playing partner.

 

Bottom line is that if the finish was better touching another club would not easily chip the paint. Not the first to mention it and unlikely the last. Have had putters that cost quite a bit more than the X and never been afraid of letting a looper handle it. Well most of them anyways...

Just got my navy single sightline in. Coming from an Odyssey O-Works Black Marxman S, the Spider X is just as easy to line up. The putter feels much more stable, and I think the new Pistol GTR grip fits my grip better. I got the single sightline because the wide white one was too much for me, as I couldn't easily tell whether I was aligned properly.

It actually is crazy to not put a putter cover on the club. Any club that is painted is going to chip if you hammer it against metal.

Seems a few posters above mentioned differences in weight and the insert, how the older tours were a bit lighter or felt softer. I had a black tour, and now a mini diamond, and I compared the X to my mini. Mini is way clicker/firmer. X was much softer. But, your mileage may vary!
