Not a good start for Paul Azinger

Yeah he’s really struggling to say anything meaningful. Missed him in Phoenix so I’m not sure if this is an improvement.

Totally agree. I remember him being much better on Fox, but mediocre so far. His voice and cadence just seem bored.

I like Zinger ok. I'll admit there are some awkward times during the broadcast but he's still a rookie analyst. He'll get better.

Well Zinger is definitely better than Greg Norman so he has that going for him. But like Norman he doesn’t seem comfortable in the role and struggles to produce meaningful commentary that you want to listen to. And he needs to put his glasses on straight. I agree there were a few other better choices, David Duval for one.

Zinger has the tour chops, and he is also no rookie announcer. He has been announcing for years. The issue will be his personality, just like it was for many here regarding Johnny. Zinger gets a bit loopy at times, sort of like McCord (but not that bad). At times it is difficult to take him seriously when he starts throwing in phrases and idioms from 1988, like when he refers to Charles Howell lll as “Chuckie Three Sticks.” Good lord.

Miss JM, but I do hope Zinger settles down and provides some good analysis, and I wish him the best of luck.

I like Duval in his current roles, but he lacks the energy to be the main dude

I would like to see the result of having a DJ Piehowski in the booth.

This has got to be a joke.

Nope, not at all! Those guys are articulate, passionate and knowledgeable about the game. "Tourist Sauce" (No Laying Up) and "Official Unofficial..." (Erik Anders Lang) on Youtube are better than anything Golf Channel has produced in years. The content is better! The production is better! The entertainment value is better!

To each his own I guess!

Soly is the only No Laying Up guy worth listening to. He’s good, I’ll give you that.

He provides absolutely nothing to the broadcast. Other than Feherty, you could mute the NBC coverage and not miss a thing.

Wow. Azinger not bragging about himself is a win over miller. I don't care if he or anyone else is being a fan boy and mist of the time the announcers are just white noise when I'm watching, that is if it's not the pip that has no sound

When ever the announcers who ever they may be get on my nerves I hit the mute on the TV and fire up a CD usually Pink Floyd and chill out and watch. I have been playing golf and watching golf long enough I know what is going on without their babbling especially Faldo

Azinger is really, really boring. I would say that hopefully he'll figure it out, but this isn't his first run at it. Very bland.

I was in broadcasting for 35 years. My observation, some people have "it" and some don't. Paul does not have any charisma in his voice.

Sometimes those people can make it, but they have to work very hard and make up for it with great content.

He was a lot more animated when he first started. He said a lot of cringeworthy stuff on occasion. I am sure they are working with him on toning it down a bit, but he still needs to let his personality shine through. He will find a happy medium eventually.

Well, since I started the thread, I guess I should respond a bit. There are a few who agree, aren't there...

The problem with the Zinger is many, but much a matter of style. He says "Ohhhhhh, mannnnn, so much, that he sounds like Jeff Spicoli from Fast Times At Ridgemont High. Some of you will remember that movie.

At times, he sounds like he's describing starting up the engine on his bass boat, where his voice goes, "Oh, maaaaaan...."

Unfortunately, it doesn't make for good golf commentary. Not that I have anything against the Zinger, but this is not the gig for him, and I think the network will recognize it pretty quickly. He's a good guy from Florida, but that doesn't make him a tv commentator.

You think it hasn't happened before? Lanny Wadkins took over for Ken Venturi on CBS, and it didn't last long. It's fragile. I like Lanny too, but he was quickly vanquished to the senior tour.

Make of it what you will, but the comments that Nobilo and Chamblee would have been better, I think, are the most relevant. All the best.

Zinger seemed unprepared for the telecast today. He offered very little insight and overall just seemed disinterested in being there. Overall he's not coming close to filling the shoes of Miller so he better step up his game.

Azinger was the safe choice and performed pretty much as expected. Not the best, but also not the worst. Personally, I would have preferred someone like Trevor Immelman who has the insight and personality that Azinger lacks.

Immelmann could be a good call. I thought Duval would be good from seeing him on golf channel pre and post round commentary but hearing him do some events - Duval has a way to go.
