Not a good start for Paul Azinger

Well Zinger is definitely better than Greg Norman so he has that going for him. But like Norman he doesn't seem comfortable in the role and struggles to produce meaningful commentary that you want to listen to. And he needs to put his glasses on straight. I agree there were a few other better choices, David Duval for one.

 

I like Duval in his current roles, but he lacks the energy to be the main dude

Immelmann could be a good call.

 

He'd be my pick too. He's always good value in the panel format and brings the insight of a major champion plus the personality that Azinger lacks. I'm also a fan of Nobilo's dry yet on point delivery, but I think he's a better fit for the GC coverage than NBC proper.

 

Which Immelmann? Trevor is the Major Winner,

Mark does On the Mark podcast and is I think 12 years older than Trevor. Mark also coaches a college team in Columbus Georgia and does PGA tour live tv coverage. Busiest guy in golf !

When ever the announcers who ever they may be get on my nerves I hit the mute on the TV and fire up a CD usually Pink Floyd and chill out and watch. I have been playing golf and watching golf long enough I know what is going on without their babbling especially Faldo

 

The real question is, which CD?

It depends on which one I grab but most of the time it is "The Wall"

To open NBC coverage yesterday, Azinger said "These guys play for three things, cash, prestige and FedEx points" with a nice backdrop of the FedEx logo behind him.

 

I can't tell you how many times I've heard guys talking about gearing up for The Masters, uhm, the US Open, oops, the FedEx Cup.

Don’t think Zinger wants to come out guns glazing and criticize the players. Give him some time. He’s still boring right now though.

Azinger is not some newcomer to the mic. He's been telling tv audiences about pressure bursting pipes since the early 2000s I think. Last few years he did USGA events for Fox. What you see is what you get, and what you are going to get for the remainder of his broadcasting career.

Probably not much of a difference in viewership due to an announcer, but Azinger still has better name recognition

I agree with the people saying Nobilo should have gotten the job. It's like they sat around and made the decision by asking "ok, who can we get that will be just as annoying to listen to as Miller?". Although, I will listen to Azinger talk all day before I'll listen to Faldo talk for 5 minutes.
