I struggle with launch. I normally play a 44.25” driver. Some heads at that length are unplayable for me due to lack of launch. But if I put a 45.5” shaft in it, my launch usually improves.

Lots of threads on shorter playing lengths for the driver if you do a search. But to summarize, you'll find that for most there is only little or no loss of distance. Certainly not a major loss.

Thank you. I searched for tour length F9 and didn't find anything, so I will do a more broad search and read up.

I bought the F9 tour, straighter and hit some real bombs with heavy weight forward. Haven't seen loss in yardage at all. Have seen more fairways

Thank you for the info. I am leaning that way. Had Cobra drivers for a while. Had an F9 regular length that I just sold. Didn't like the shaft I got in it, so debating on going to the tour length.

The problem is not the head but some other aspect of the build. Unfortunately, playing a shorter driver successfully is about more than just cutting down the length. Length changes frequently need to be balanced with head weight and even shaft weight changes to get the best results. Some even may need some additional tweaks to the shaft stiffness.

I believe there will be more results in the ClubMakers/Club Tech sub-forum than the equipment sub-forum

Had recent fitting for an F9 and the best overall numbers on average, particularly left/right dispersion which is what I need, was better with F9 9.0 (lofted to 7.5) with 2 of the standard heavier weights, I believe are 14g each, shafted with a Hzrdus Smoke 3 wood shaft. Playing length of 44". Felt good too.

I agree. Cobras “Tour Length” option is what every manufacturer should be offering a similar version of.

You mean the 45.75" Taylormade offers is too long??

Got fitted with a F9 at 44 inches. Cobra is one of the few manufacturers that allow you to add weight to that head for correct swing weight.

Just curious where you were able to go to get fitted into a specific length? All the fitters in my area only carry the standard driver and 3w shaft lengths so the only options are to hit those and then guess if you want to go with a different length.

I play an F7 at 44 inches right now so I’d probably just use my current shaft for the fitting, but it would be nice to be able to try out some other shafts at that length too.

People should be required to get a professional fitting and a signed permit from the fitter to be allowed to buy a driver longer than 44.5”.

45+ inch “standard” drivers are the worst thing to EVER happen in golf equipment.

This! I'm a firm believer that if everyone got fit, the majority of driver lengths would fall between 43.5 and 44.5 inches. Then, shorten up the 3 woods, hybrids/2 irons accordingly....

  • 2 weeks later...

Thinking of going with the F9 tour length, but of course none of the shops had demo tour length shafts to try. In regular length, I’m typically right on the border between regular and stiff flex, and I’ll decide which way I go depending on how that particular shaft feels. I tried the Fuji TS ATMOS Blue 6 in regular and it felt good, but I’m afraid it might turn over too much if I go after it.

Ordering tour length, did any of you move up a flex to offset the additional weight in the head?

You can order the shaft tipped a 1/2 inch or 1 inch if you want. It Will make up for the extra weight.

... Considering missing the center by 1/4" can mean a loss of 5-7yds and misses by 1/2" - 1" are pretty normal on off days, I have gained yds while tightening dispersion with Tour Length. I hit the center more often which means longer drives.

For those that can't test the Tour length, ask the shop to pop a Cobra 3 wood shaft in and add another heavy weight from another F9 head (I assume the shop has more than one on demo). This will give you a very good idea of what something in the 44" range will feel/play like.
