He was fine. Just not good enough. His short game needs work for this level. It’s just a different deal on these courses. Have to be SO good on so many different shots. This isn’t a hard course but if you miss greens the rough demands precision and understanding that he just doesn’t have yet.

Honestly though, I like his chances of getting there.

Akshay is kind of the first of this young generation that is coming up that is basically been raised to play golf by his parents.

Basically a junior living the life of a professional growing up home schooled and essentially golfing full time from a young age. Maybe I was naive until the US Kids Worlds and I notice there a many of these young kids are living the life of a professional golfers from a very young age. Home schooled or sports school and basically golf full time and year round. Their parents give them every opportunity to golf as much as they can at a very young age from 9 years old and up. It used to be the exception, but now many are doing it. (sorry if this has already been discussed).

Yup, and you should’ve seen IMG Jr World. I’d say the next generation of kids from around the world aren’t training from “9 years old and up”, the top kids are already crazy good by 6. The top 6 YO from Japan is only 44.5 inches tall, but CARRIES close to 100 yards with an iron. His driver carries somewhere between 130-150. For comparison, my slightly above average 6 YO (7 next month) is 3 inches taller, but only carries 2/3 as far.

Here is a video of the Japanese kid hitting an iron:

Honestly, this does not impress me at all. He goes after the ball, but there are flaws there that will lead to injury from over use. A lot of back used in that swing.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Doesn’t impress me either. Plenty of 6 year olds in the US with better swings and can drive just as far. Heck, my son drove the par 4 140-yard hole at worlds when he was 6. Where the full-time golfers differentiate is short game and scoring. They flat out can chip and putt. They aren’t just good putters; they’re excellent.

I'd bet 75% or more of the kids on this forum started earlier than 9. Mine started at 4.5 years old. It's the Tiger effect.

It's no fun when the rabbit's got the gun.

Mine started at 5, but has nothing to do with Tiger. It's because I like golf, I wanted someone to golf with, and we live in an area where golf is practically year round, and right in our back yard. It's just easy. Add to that junior clubs are easy to find, and junior competitions are easy to enter.

I feel like you used to be a golf nut, or a super achiever to enter golf before elementary school. It's pretty easy these days.

Mine started at 7 because he came with me to a high school golf match I was coaching and wanted to try. Snowball since then....

He has no status anywhere. He’s using 3 sponsors these 3 weeks and then reassessing. He’s definitely doing Qschook at the end of the year

Great take, went from being a TM player to Callaway iirc.

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.
