True Temper Dynamic Gold AMT.

Recommended Posts

I have been scratching my head around this for the last few days. I went to my local golf store and was messing around on my lunch hour. I was looking at some used clubs and a set of 718 ap2 caught my eyes because they had a set of True Temper Dynamic Gold AMT Tour Issue shafts. I have never hit the AMT shafts. But all I can say is they gotme thinking. I have never hit so many pure 4 and 5 irons. I don't know it is was my swing that day or if the lighter weight shafts in the long irons were making the difference. Can any of you guys out there share you experience with the True Temper Dynamic Gold AMT and the new AMT White shafts.

I went on a club kick this year and spotted a really great deal on a new set of jpx 900 tours. Purchased them without even knowing what shaft came in them. It was the amt white s300.

Anyways, I had bought these as a backup/whack around set of irons, but after using them a couple times per month, after bad rounds with my p760 gamers, I noticed I consistently played better with the new sticks. I’m not the best guy to give you feedback, but I never hit my long irons well, but now I play a 3 and 4 iron and have no hesitation in hitting them. The weights, with 3 gram differences, flow really nicely. All the clubs fee quite consistent to each other. The sw’s don’t seem off or anything like that.

I can never seem to get my short irons flighting down consistently, but at least these shafts don’t add to the problem. As for the mid and long irons, the shafts really flight the ball nice and high. A good swing will yield a good result.

These shafts are absolutely fair in all aspects. A good swing will be rewarded with consistent flight and distance, a nice and crisp feeling, and will not leave you feeling exhausted at days end. I quite like these shafts. Perhaps buy a 4 iron and 8 iron and use them over the winter to test?

I have these in my 3 and 4 irons, i've never hit long irons so high and far. I can't use them on anything shorter than a 4, it's just way too high.

AMT or Ascending Mass Tech, is actually MOI matched shafts where each shaft delivers the same actual resistance, and even if we use flat SW, the set as a whole gets close to Actual MOI matched for the set.

Compared to the SW system with Constant WGT shafts, we get a more equal resistance (all clubs feel more identical with AMT), while the the Standard DG SW matched has progressive higher resistance as we go longer.

How is the feel with using the AMT in 3 and 4 irons do they feel the same as the Dynamic Gold shafts and hows the swing weight feel on them.

I have the AMT Tour Issue X100 SS1x in my J15 CB and some AMT white S300 in another set of J15 CBs which I haven't actually hit yet. I went this route as regular X100s were launching too low in the 4 and 5 irons, but everything else was ok. I love the distance and accuracy I am getting and have strung 3 sub par rounds in the last 2 months using them. I don't notice all that much of a difference in weight but I do have some regular X100s I am going to SS1x into some S55s so once I get those out I am sure I will be able to feel the differences between the two, possibly see as well. The AMTs are way better at launching the long irons, that much is clear so far.

I'm very interested in the AMT shafts as well. I currently use the DGTI s400 in all my irons, and really like how stable they feel. I really like the idea of the lighter weight shafts in the longer clubs, especially in the summer towards the end of a round when I'm really tired. I've looked into the AMT s400 shafts, and can't bring myself to buy them yet because I'm unsure how I'll respond to the lighter weight in the longer irons. I tend to swing more consistently with clubs that are on the heavier side because it helps with my tempo, but if they feel very similar throughout the set, I think I'll be able to adjust to them.

Does this still hold true if they are soft-stepped one step?

I've been playing S300 AMT's for the last year and a half, and I like them quite a bit. It's nice to be able to swing a 3 or 4 iron with the same effort as a 7 iron and get a decent result.

I'm planning on getting them again in my next set, only in the X100 flex this time (hoping that they won't be too stout for me in the long run.)

YES is the short answer. When we soft step we loose the weight equal to 0.5 inch, but that goes for all shafts, and the but section has about the same "grams pr inch" even if the shafts uncut vary.

(True temper uses variable wall thickness, and AMT has a progression to Balance point, where BP is moved 0.3" closer to the tip for each shaft longer to compensate for shaft weight loss vs SW.)

Just be aware of that shaft weight moves close to 5 grams when we soft-step AMT (summary of 3 grams between shafts, plus weight loss from 0.5" butt cut)

Here is how the shafts them self turns out at standard play length. (look at the BLUE marked numbers) This is AMT S400

p9qclgt06umb.png

Here is how the classic DGS300/X100 looks like. We can clearly see the progression as contribution to MOI (both set ups with S400 WEDGE)

I love the DG AMT. I always used to put lighter shafts in my long irons before. The AMT makes easy to launch a 2 iron.

Would there be a reason to mix and match the AMT series shafts. For example AMT White in the 6-W, but 4 and 5 AMT Black in similar flex? Or is it dependent upon timing of the shaft?

I've had them for a few years now, I'm not even looking at any other sets of shafts. I love them and they really do help me with my 4-5-6 irons. I've actually began looking for another set should anything happen to these ones.

No reason for that, they are all Ascending Wgt, but its own series of Ascending wgt

If you for some reason want the shaft to help out with higher launch in the long end than the lowered weight already does, you might soft step the long end, but try them as they are first.

Honestly I think most if not all iron shafts would be somewhat designed this way if golf equipment were to be "reset" today with us knowing nothing of past practices. If you are going to have a flat (or close to flat) swing weight progression in your iron sets like most OEMs do, it only makes sense to let the shaft handle balancing the MOI of the club by making the longer shafts lighter.

As I grow older and health issues pop up I find AMT S300's to be PERFECT for me. I always loved DGS300 in my 8-pw but often struggled when the club gets longer.....with AMT I just don't have those issues. The Long Irons are much easier to swing along with having the feedback I expect.
