I kind of see some similarities in Välimäki’s today round and Hovland’s 4. round last sunday. Välimäki made double bogey in 9. hole when leading but bouncebacked it right away with birdie. There were also huge par putts during round, which tells this guy’s hand doesn’t shake when pressure is on and crucial putts needs to be sinked. The 18. birdie putt was just so clutch!

Also needs to say that this was just Välimäki’s 6. European tour start. This guy totally have that winner mentality in him and hopefully he keeps developing overall in the future, because he has that important mental aspect in his game. Very happy for him!

What is the significance of the yellow ribbons being worn by various players and caddies?

I think it has to do with Jack & Barbara Nicklaus “Play Yellow” campaign in support of their Children’s Pediatric Hosptial fundraiser. Lots of yellow today. He had a specially designed yellow “bear” hat that a lot of folks are wearing in support. Chunk of the proceeds go to their foundation.

This is just an unrelenting test. I don't think this course presents all that well on TV. Some have called it uninteresting. Obviously not playing that way. I will say it looks like for those without the game to play it well it would be hard in that sort of death march way instead of the stimulating/challenging way. Haven't played it but just get that impression watching it.

Sungjae Im has an interesting swing. Beyond the takeaway, the first 1/3rd of his backswing is really slow. I'm used to seeing this on the LPGA. Seems to be a great ball striker, though.
