Very interesting I've noticed that footage with the tracer "on" often has out of synch audio, so this makes sense.

Yeah there's not a lot to defend about Bivens but I do think she had the players best interests in mind - as far as promoting their own brands and the like - but she took a very ham handed approach to it which understandably didn't go over too well with the player community.

Honda Classic....PGA National is my new favorite course and tournament (other than ANGC). It identify the best player of the week and it test all parts of your game. The lowest score at the end of the week use to be all that mattered, now people are concerned with how you get there and what club you use....that's what's ruining the game.

~Just my opinion.

Speaking of delays on video, was I the only one to notice on some of the shot link shots, that you would hear the club hitting the ball twice? And the first sound of the ball hitting, was usually BEFORE the player made his shot and then the 2nd shot heard was AFTER the ball was in the air. Very strange.

I also found the course reporters at times, being drowned on on the 15th and 17 tees while waiting for players tee off. I wonder if they had too many mics in the crowds and their volumes raised too high. Perhaps attempting to artificially make it sound louder than it actually was.

Let's not forget, this is the same network that likes to make an artificial ball in the water sound when a ball lands in the water.

No, not a prerequisite. But I think it’s courteous. Not to mention financially beneficial since you can present to sponsors and the media.

i work in London and since I have Japanese clients I figure it’s polite to speak a few words in their language. Spanish, French, Italian as well. Just a please or a thank you.. and it makes their day.

are you seriously suggesting an aspiring pro can’t take a few minutes a day to learn a language? It’s part of the job. Can you imagine a Seve who spoke only basque?

I agree. Learning some of a new language, conversationally, is not that hard. Some of these Asian kids have been groomed for the US Tour since birth, by their parents. Taking some English language courses might have been wise.

I speak from experience. I went to school in France, a French school, in 5th and 6th grade, Starting out not speaking the language. I studied the language hard and fast and passed both grades.

How do you know the Twitter video was not altered? Easy to do. In fact I would say it's obvious it was altered.

The sound of the ball being struck is delayed. Fleetwood's swing is FINISHED before the sound of the ball being struck is heard.

Be careful of basing conclusions on Twitter.

We heard what happened live on air and it was not the only time it happened during the round. Including right next to Fleetwood on the tee box.

There is really no defence of that idiot in the crowd and unfortunately there are too many of them at American golf tournaments.

But....its a millisecond and lets be clear - thats how sound *works*

If I'm standing 100 yards away from your front door and you walk out, you'll be near top step before I hear the door close. Thats...the nature of sound.

One thing we are in agreement on is there's no excuse for people to be yelling anything like that during a tournament or anytime. That said I'd trust the twitter video more than the NBC feed. Why? Because the video and sound are married in the same device (the phone). On course the microphones and cameras are separate. The audio doesn't ride into the production truck on the video. It's a separate feed. And there are multiple microphones around the course. They have to be kept in sync for everything to match up and they frequently aren't. As a result sometimes they will cut back to a player for a "live" shot that is actually a second or two delayed but the microphone has not been delayed. We will hear the sound of the strike before the player completes his or her swing. This happens so often there have been threads started on it here for the conspiratorial minded. Here's an older one for example: https://forums.golfwrx.com/discussion/235163/does-the-golf-channel-dub-sounds. On a phone you can't do that. Unless of course its done after the fact as you suggested. For what purpose would that be done? To exonerate a meathead yelling during someone's swing? Grounds for getting tossed yes. Crime of the century? No.

Hideki has talked for at least a couple of years about working on some English and some reports suggest he may know more than he feels comfortable letting on, especially in an interview setting. So he's already doing what some would project on him as the "right" thing to do.

So what's the problem or criticism?

He has zero obligation to learn English if he doesn't want to and I just don't agree that my idea of what I might do defines what he should do or some value judgment about what would be the "right" thing or "courtesy" - courtesy, IMO, is accepting whatever his feelings are whatever language he chooses to express himself in, particularly his native language.

Just think getting into "should" crosses a line, but that's my value judgment. ;-)

Not me.

I hear faster than the speed of sound.

It's a gift, but has done nothing for my golf game.

Sound travels at 343m/s. At the distance the fan was away there would be a slight delay, not after after the swing is complete and the ball is in the air.

The Twitter video is almost certainly doctored.

Regardless, this also happened other times during the round, even on the tee box with a fan standing right next to Fleetwood.

US fans on course need to clean up their act.

"US fans on course need to clean up their act."

No going to happen. We have like 10X the people at PGA events than Euro. Like 200,000 go to many events (like the Honda) and even sometimes 700,000. And it's not like Euro fans. We got all kinds of lunatics walking through the gates. All is all, it's really quite civil ; )
