New Hogan iron

There was a hint of a blade-on-blade design with the Ft. Worth irons, but the "dent" is unmistakable.

What I read in another review (of the PTx Pro) was the Pro has a slightly wider sole and slightly larger face vs the PTX. It did not say the blade was any longer, only a larger face, so it could be they slightly extended the hitting area. I’ve never compared them side by side. Also a touch more offset on the Pro, but pretty close there. The Pro also was intended to change the look of the entire lineup, to return to the Hogan look. The CEO said then the future irons would follow the aesthetics of the PTx Pro. Appear to be doing just that.

I ordered on March for 18th. Within a few

days or a week the stay at home order happened so that delayed the shipment. Once they were allowed to work it took just under 2 weeks to fulfill and ship. They should be here tomorrow.

Does anyone know how Hogan's demo program works? I see you can order demos of 2 clubs, but it doesn't say which 2 clubs they are (they also don't currently have any Icon demos, anyway). I'd be interested in comparing the 4 iron to my current 3 iron, which I believe are the same loft, but it doesn't look like they let you select which clubs you get to demo. I'd like to give them a try, and the demo program seems like a nice, cheap way to do that.

Demos are a 6 and 9 usually. You can select the long iron replacement and you get a 4 utility and hybrid.

Would love to see pics of them next to the '99s if you get the chance. Still have my '99s, plus a set of FTXs, '88s, IIs, and '73s. Had a set of original PTXs from the new Hogan, but sad to say Srixon a 7/945 combo set kicked them out. Pretty intrigued by the Icons. The Ft. Worths didn't really do it for me for some reason. Obviously a lot more traditional Hogan design language in the Icons.

Comparison pictures of the 6 irons of the Icon and '99 Apex Blades on the thread in the Equipment forum. The '99 Apex blades in this picture have been rechromed, scoring lines redone, and is my spare set (now most likely expendable).

my set will not ship out until around 1st week in June. They are a bit backlogged owing to COVID. Also, for some reason, I can not load any of the links quoted in the responses above. Either I am missing something since the web was changed, or I have some sort of script debugging problem.

I ordered April 30. At the time I was told two weeks, but I have checked more recently and was told around the first of June. Oh and BTW welcome to the forum!

Huge Ben Hogan fan but I have no business playing blades. I have enjoyed reading this thread though; amazing to find forged irons at these prices.

I notice you have an Odyssey 7 Tank putter. I have an Odyssey Metal-X Mid belly which I cut down about 7 inches and placed a plastic cap from a small tube of Shave Gel with a Philippines coin glued inside the top to add back a little weight. It seems to be balanced just right. I would imagine it is similar to your tank. The cap even has my initial in it.

"Hooray"....my Black Icon's have shipped! (at least label created). Ordered April 30 and hoping to have around the 1st. Yah, I know.....so what? I ordered them +.5 and 1* Upright. I am 6.1 with 35 Inch wrist break to floor. No, I didn't get fitted, but that is what my current set are and they are fine. I will try to post photos if anybody wants, but by now I assume people have seen photos/video on Ben Hogan site. I did not see the combo set (PTX Pro long irons and 8-P Icon) for same price until after I had already ordered or I might have gone that route. Oh well...

I can't really say I like the look of any of the Hogan irons line but, know a few guys that rave about them.

I tell ya what, though, Hogan makes some super great and cheap golf shorts.

Well, I tried again to upload photos. I am not able to. I keep getting message of Long running script and after awhile, my drives and lists of files and images appear. I click on the photos I want, but they won't load properly and in fact, I have to completely do a hard boot on my computer to get the drive/file lists to go away. I have no problem on any other forum.

Anyway, I took the clubs out to the course. Crappy day, but the clubs were no more difficult to hit than what I had. I will say that the good hits had a great feel and you could hardly feel striking the ball. Mishits were low and sort of skidded off. Short irons were phenomenal.

Bought mine at an Edwin watts shop. Very comfortable stuff. I’ll look again to see if it’s actually a Ben Hogan products. Feel and look great. Pretty cheap too. Time will tell how well they last.
