How do you hit a high draw?

Have been playing for 23 years and have always hit a fade or straight shot. Anytime I tried to hit a draw it would turn into a snap hook. Have been working on it the last few days I've finally been able to hit a controllable draw (most of the time), but with considerably lower ball flight compared to my normal ball flight.

How can I get more height with a draw? With a fade the club face is opening at impact but with a draw the face is closing.

I'm sure others have different ways to accomplish this task, but below is how I would accomplish this (if my default flight path was either fade or straight, as yours is)

play the ball a bit farther up in your stance - adds loftstand a bit farther away from the ball - shots out towards the toe give a bit of gear effect to help the ball turn overtee the ball a little higher if this is a tee shot - shots higher up on the face add to the launch angle and typically give better carry #s. Play this shot as if its your normal shot, other than the above. A snap hook often comes from trying to make a different swing entirely. Only change the setup as noted above, and swing normally.

Fix the issues in your swing that create a low fade. The rest is just a short term band aid.

Monte has this right...however, I will tell you what works for me. I move slightly (about a ball width) farther away at address. That typically adds some height for me. I'm just really hitting flippy draws this way, but I predominantly play a fade, so I don't try and hit a draw very often. NEVER when playing a tournament or to make a score. only money games that are meaningless....

Its all about an inside path.. a big push draw will go plenty high because the face isnt getting shut.

With Monte 100% on this. IF your stock driver shot is a low fade, you're wasting your time trying to hit a high draw with the same club. Maybe try with a 4-5 wood until you have the driver swing fixed?

Would seem to hit a high draw you would need to do it more with an in to out path than closing down the face.

Thanks for the advice, maybe I should have worded my original post better. I meant the height I am getting from hiting a draw is a lot lower than when I hit a straight shot or fade.

There really isn't a difference in the face closing/opening between a draw and a fade. If the only way you can draw it is to end up with a closed face at impact..ie starts left and keeps going left...then your path is the issue. Which goes back to you need to fix the issues that prevent an in to out path

Yes, I think the same, it's easier to learn how to hit a pull draw than it is to hit a push draw, (starting right and falling back to center). Path is important and in my view, the hardest to correct. You can hit all kinds of shapes by manipulating your hands on whatever your current swing path is but the ball probably isn't going to end up where you want it. When I learned to play, all of the instruction was aimed at slicers and it was too easy to fall into the "swing to right field", "keep the butt end of the club pointing at the ball", camps. After thousands of range balls, this turned into a pretty push draw when the timing was on and a nasty flip hook when it wasn't....far too easy to get dumped under plane. My advice for anyone wanting to learn how to hit a draw.....DON'T! Learn how to hit a better fade and watch your scores improve!
