How far do you hit your driving iron, REALLY?

I used to give myself hernias trying to blast 2 irons. But then I'd pick up a 4 or 5 wood, swing half as hard and hit it just as far. I don't carry a 2 anymore and would only consider it as a rotational club for super windy days.

Revisiting this thread. My Tour Edge EXS 220 2i (17°) with a Tensei Silver Stiff is my bailout 5W replacement for windy days, or when I’m hitting it well. It’s a lot of fun, but way less versatile and harder to consistently hit well. 
It goes around 200 m and rollout depends on the course, obviously. I used to carry it all the time, but honestly, my iron striking is not good enough to justify carrying it as a safety club.

Same here.  Have a Mizuno MP-18 MMC Fli-Hi 16.5* in the garage, paired with a Tour Green shaft.  Nice and stable, low bullets.  

 

But at my swing speed its a 240 club now.  I can get there much easier with my 4W.    

 

It goes in the bag during the late winter when the wind picks up here in FL.  Maybe a few rounds per year.

I just got my first legit driving iron (18*) and have yet to hit it. My guess is 200-220.

Ping Eye 2 - 1 iron.  Hit it to 230 with rollout... about 20 yards of carry.  🙂

I have a Vapor Fly Pro 2 iron that I can get out there about 230 or 240, with loads more possible if the fairways are dry, but the C Taper means I have to swing out of my shoes to do that so not always practical. 

 

I've replaced it with a P770 3 Iron which I am very impressed with so far - easy to launch about 220 with a slight draw. Still figuring it out off the deck but I like what I see so far.

I hit a srixon zu85 3 iron/20 degree. Avg is prob 250-260 but on firm days the thing won't stop rolling.. It's just too 1 dimensional for me, too hot to hit into greens. Going to pull it in favor of a 5 wood or maybe even a 7 wood?

I carry a traditional blade Titleist 690mb 2-iron in my bag specifically for tee shots on two holes on my home course that have trouble on the right side that used to torcher me before switching to an iron off the tee.  Depending on conditions I can hit it as far as 245 off of a tee but its more about accuracy and coming up short of trouble if I make a bad swing with the 2-iron.  I rarely use this club for anything else.  The reason I prefer this club is that my misses with it are very predicable and don't get me into the sort of trouble that my 3-wood or driver would get me into.  My miss with a driver or 3-wood is a push that flies strait but is well off line which on the two holes I carry this club for is death.  My worst miss with the 2-iron will never get me into that trouble.  My misses with the 2-iron tend to lose a lot of yardage which keeps me short of the trouble and leaves me with a good although long 2nd shot into the green.  I'd rather have a 180 to 200 yard second shot with a look at the green than be 130 out but deep in the trees or a ball out of play.
