Speed

Speaking of swing speed what is the average uptick in swing speed per year would you say from just growing and getting stronger naturally?  If adding exercise what swing speed upticks have you seen?  Daughter is currently 8 and swings it 68mph on average.  We have been stuck here for what seems like forever.

Thanks

My daughter just turned 13 and is small for her age. She has been stuck on the same swing speed for awhile. One thing that TPI people will tell you is that in juniors, weight equals strength. The kids who are thicker naturally hit the ball further as a general rule. My daughter has gotten taller but hasn't put on any weight so that is why we haven't seen the jump in swing speed. She is now working out two days a week and doing the speed sticks when she can. She is naturally thin so putting on the weight is tough so you just have to let nature take its course. In the meantime work hard on the short game.

Working out is good but to gain weight she needs to have a caloric surplus. How many calories per day is she consuming now?

There's definitely something more important that I should be doing.

Different for every kid.  GolfingDawg is correct.  Heavier, thicker kids at younger ages will hit the ball further.  At younger ages upper body strength then core will determine how far they hit it.  Think about doing pushes and pulls.  Push ups and pull ups.

I am GenX.  If you really think I care about what you have to say, I don't.

Good question. I’m not sure how many she takes in on average each day. I’ll have to keep a log for a week and see.

Protein Smoothies.  Twice a day.

I would agree but you can push strength and conditioning. My daughter is in gymnastics and spends 20+ hours in the gym per week getting strong while also maintaining a healthy diet that enables her to gain muscle while staying tone.

There is a fine line here especially for girls in what can be achieved. At the end of the day it is truly genetics. You can't work out girls like you do with boys things are just different.

Some girls have very strong upper body strength they have a lot potential. Other girls just are not very strong and there going to have a hard time hitting the ball very long.

Boys are very different there are very few boys who do not have the potential to hit long enough to play in the PGA when there fully grown.

However on the girls side maybe 25% have the potential to hit it long enough to play on the LPGA.   In girls junior golf there is a lot girls who win with a good short game.  However they will struggle in college and above because there not long enough.

My daughter at 15 still eats like a bird.  Both of my boys did as well at that age.  Oldest is now 195 and solid muscle.  The middle one (golfer) is 160.  Both would eat you out of house and home.

My nine-year-old daughter inherited my appetite, but my seven-year-old son hasn't--so far.  I'm sure all bets are off once puberty hits and he starts weight training.

If you slo-mo the backswing and then let the video go full speed on the downswing you're not fooling anyone with the perception of speed.  #We'reNotDumb

I haven't heard a college coach yet say send me slo-mo videos.  They want to see it normal speed.

I’ve had some ask for both.  I haven’t had any great college programs ever ask for a swing video at all.

Typical they're either seeing you at an event or you have an online profile.

Social media is also apart of the recruiting as well.

My point was coaches can slow the video down.
