I've been playing the AF since they first came out. A few months ago, I went to the Paradym Triple Diamond and my driving has gradually declined. I am now hitting either big draws or big fades--which has always been the case when I'm playing a shaft that is too soft. I switched to a Hzrdous Black and my driving immediately calmed down. Everything is left to right now, and it is almost impossible for me to hit a draw. I can def play this setup, but I have always liked my AF. So I'm thinking I need to take some weight out of the head (8g?) and try the AF again.

Thoughts?

I have to keep reminding myself that I get better results when I swing it hard. When I tried to avoid fades or draws, I started having more issues. Once I just went all out, everything straightened right out.

Which AF are you playing and what is the head weight? I've been playing the SF505 since they came out. And even though I have tried nothing has taken it out of the bag yet. My PXG Gen 4 head is at 207 grams.

Same here, even though ALL OUT for me is only about 92 - 94 mph. Sux getting old, will be 67 in a couple of weeks.

I'm playing the 505. My CHS is in the 92-94 range these days. 3D head is 198g. My previous driver head (Epic SZ) weighed 194g and that worked really well with my AF.

I have some Paradym weights headed my way. When those arrive, I'm going to change the rear weight from 14g to 8g and see how that works.

So I replaced the 14g rear weight with an 8g weight. The 14g weight actually weighed 15g, so I took 7g of weight out of the head. The lighter head was an improvement--ball flight was straighter and more consistent--but I hated the sound/feel. I replaced the 8g with a 12g, so that was just 3g less than the original setup, but somehow it worked really well. I could hit a little draw and a little fade, which was a big difference from the large hooks and slices I was hitting before. Honestly, I find it a little hard to believe that 3g could make that much difference, but who knows. I'll hit it again tomorrow and see if the improved ball flight was a one-day wonder or legit improvement. I wish I had gotten a 10g weight, because I think that would be about perfect. I may try a little lead tape on the back of the head to see if that is even better.

I have one of the new Proxima shafts on the way to test against my Autoflex. Which I have been playing since they came out and nothing has beat it yet. Going to be a good shoot out !!!!!!!

I have not tried either of the new models (the have this one Dream and another called Special Joy Joy) as neither has the XX for swing speeds over 110mph.  Don’t particularly like the new design/color.  Really like the special edition Red/Blue and the Yellow/Black colors though.  Unfortunately neither of those colors helped to lower my score. 😂

Bought the new AutoFlex Joy 505x and had a long session with it today. I have played the original 505x since the day it came out and wouldn’t even think about playing another shaft in the driver.
The new one is VERY similar to the original. It has a slightly firmer feel to it and the numbers are almost identical. I did notice a little less spin, which lead to a few extra overall yards. It’s super solid and the looks are a bit more normal than the OG. I went with the black and orange.

Definitely interested to hear more reviews on the new ones. The price increase really does turn me off though. $790 should be MORE than enough to cover your costs, $880 is beyond greedy.

@My2Dogs Help me out here man! I just got an 505XX which I’ll play in a G430 MAX 10K. Swing weight is D3 as stated by Ping. It comes with a 28 gram back weight so changing it to a 25 gram should do the trick for recommended SW? Stock head weight is 206 so it will came down to 203.

Ah ok.  Should be a good combo if you can control the spin.  Depending on your attack angle, it might be too high but if you can get in the standard AoA range, I think it could be a good combo.

The stock Ping shaft is likely quite counterbalanced and the Autoflex might not be as counterbalanced. You may need an even lighter back weight than your thinking, especially at 45.5" length.

I'm thinking about trying the AI Smoke driver with the AF - leaning toward Triple Diamond based on this, but haven't totally decided yet. Have loved my TSR2 but a (good) swing change has me in the mood for a change.

Anyone else using the AI Smoke driver?

I bought an Ai TD head to play with an Autoflex X shaft. It flat out just didn’t perform. Head felt very heavy and although strike was sweet the numbers were poor. So poor (about 15-20 yards shorter than my gamer) I immediately moved it on and tested a Qi10 LS instead.

Distances are significantly better and I’m very happy with decision although struggling to reduce the swingweight due to the Qi10’s heavy weights that have no lighter versions available as yet.

How much lighter?

This won't be exactly the same, but I have a light (48g) Accra shaft in my Ping 10k that I'm currently playing at 45.75".  With a Lamkin Sonar Midsize grip (not the lightest out there), here are my swing weights with the Ping 10K:

22g   D-1

25g   D-3

28g   D-5

31g    D-7

A little update, flex is still doing well, for weight I ended up landing at 7 grams split with two weights for the tsr 4g toe and 3 gram's heel.  Results so far has been pretty solid. I can work the ball both ways without fear of massive hook and feel more aggressive release for the draw.  I am most comfortable playing a slight fade and swing with the current setup it feels very stable.

Biggest thing for me has been to be a little more patient up top. With All the extra weight it feels like it takes an extra moment for the shaft to finish loading. And from there it's like Carrie Underwood wood say.  " Flexyi take the wheel"

I'm tempted to get the AI Smoke TD. Gave it a couple of runs yesterday and results were pretty amazing and head shape is just right.

I just got the AiSmoke 💎💎💎 with the AF 405 yesterday.   Had one range session with it and all very positive.

i am a Slow swinging 64,year old.  But i went from 81-82 MPH Swing Speed and 115-119 Ball speed to 84-85 and 124 to 126 and topped out at 126 ball.

The fligjt was great. Just w straight as an arrow mid high flight.

i actually flipped thw weights from 14 Back and 2 Front to opposite of that and it worked well.  I have the 10.5 head amd set to +1 D as i heard it was a bit fade biased flight

I’ll be getting it on course early next week to see real life results.

I have a 505 in AI Smoke TD.  Came from Paradym TD.  Headweight is the same so it was plug and play.  Smoke is definitely more forgiving across the face and less fade biased for me.  So far, I really like the performance.  I tested the Max but spin was too high with the AF.

My experience with the Ai TD is the dame as yours. Forgiving and not too fade biased at all.    I also have the Max but doubt ill try the AF in it.   I cant imagine it being better.    As the spin on the TD seems about perfect so far.

I just got a 505 in my ping 10k. Comes stock with 28 g weight, I Used a online swing weight calculator and it said D6 but it was actually pretty impressive but I could tell my strike was not great. Got a 17 g and calculator said c7 which a lot of people seemed to enjoy. This felt way too light and I was losing the head during the swing. Just got a 22 g today and calculator says D0.2 ... feels unreal now so it's crazy what just a few grams does for feel. I saw one guys broke from swinging. I am around 110 ss per my local golf store but I really think they jack up numbers there and feel like I'm closer to 105 which puts me on the edge of 505 and the X. That would suck if this thing would snap from being just a few mph over the recommendation, as I love the whippier feel. For those wanting a ping head, you can totally get it to D0-D1 it just takes some fiddling with the weights (which you can get on Amazon). It will probably lower it from 10k forgiveness but should still be plenty forgiving. Will update how I do with it over the next few weeks. But so far it's a monster. And very very straight

Best shaft I’ve ever used, love it so much. Never had any fear it would snap, that would be really awful considering the cost. 🤞🏻

My sweet spot is D1.5, that’s with an X at 110ss
