KHT Autoflex shaft

I need help from anyone who’s gaming AutoFlex 505XX with a TSR3 head.

Stock back weight is 8 grams and D4 SW, optimal SW according to KHT is 1.5-2.0 right?

So I need an aftermarket 4 or 3 gram back weight to replace the stock in order yo get that SW….

What did you guys do?

I am thinking of trying it with the stock 8 gram back weight and then without it (think it goes to D0) and see how it performs

Any suggestions? Has anyone tried any of these options?

Go with the stock weight. At your speeds you need the extra weight to help stabilize the head. Remember that tempo is key with this shaft. Let it load at the top. Once you groove this in it will be so automatic it will free up the rest of your game. Be patient though. Autoflex is not like the rest. You have to adjust to it.

What length are you playing it at?  My stock weight was a 5g as I play my shafts at 46 normally (I choke down 1/2 for some reason as it feels comfortable).  I moved up to a 12g weight at 46” and it’s perfect for me.  Both in a 9* and 8* TSR3 head.

I’d go stock as TNwanabemsaid but don’t feel like you have to go lighter.  Sometimes you can go heavier.

tempo is key and you have to let the shaft load at the top.  If you do that, you can go after it on the downswing as much as you want.  If you take it back too fast and don’t let it load, you will have a harder time timing it up.

Is the shaft designed to be played at the legal max of 46 inches to get the most out of it or are results similar at 45.5- or 45-inch playing lengths?

Are you playing professionally or high level events where the 46”:local rule is used?

Legal max is still 48” for the rest of us.

Thanks. Great that it is legal but it is unlikely I’d go past 46 inches anyway, as longest I have played to date is a Callaway Rogue ST LS with a Diamana TB 60S at 45.5 inches, 1/4 inch less than standard spec.

I could see going plus 1/2 inch in a 505X and see how it goes. Seems like results are very individual. Some like it to play long, @SEP1006got best results at 45 inches and a heavier head.

It works for me. I switched between taylormade, callaway and Titleist driver heads until I settled on cobra on my 505x

I picked up a 505X on a putter trade.  I put it on a TSR2 10* head with stock weight and the first round of the season, hit every fairway.  I bet it has been over 20 years since I have done that.  I even used it on holes that I normally lay up to keep it in play.  I'm using an All-fit adapter, and I have not measured the playing length or swing weight yet.  I did have a couple of high spinny drives, but still on target.  This weekend, I plan on taking the weight out and just using washers under the screw or maybe just longer/shorter screws, to experiment with a lighter weight head to see if there is more to gain.  It is looking very good so far.

Had trouble all weekend with the 505x. Every shot was a fade/slice. It's definitely me that can't square up the club face but when I did connect (once), it went miles.

Thank you for posting this as it is a critical adjustment that needs to be mentioned regarding the Autoflex. The probable fix for your issue is to hold the hands higher at address. For the Autoflex to work the best it needs to be more in line with your hands during the swing. Both back and through. Unlike a stiff shaft, the Autoflex requires a smooth loading and minimal shaft plane changes to work optimally. I hope that helps.

Still like mine but wished I got the 505xx rather than the 505x.  I get days where it gets spinny which is usually wind assisted.  Calm days I nail it but it still does spin too much.  I'll have to hit the BST forum to trade for an XX.

What ball are you using? I was having spin issues with the ProV1x. Changed to the ProV1 and got great results.

I am using the 2023 ProV1 and a 505x... just had two of my lowest rounds ever this week and drove the ball great. If you just focus on tempo and not trying to get too handsy this thing works wonders.

Agreed. I have hit new distances with my 405 and the V1. I get more rollout than I did with the V1X. For me it has been a game changer.

I will try that on the next nonwindy day.

The Wilson Staff ball is very high compression (higher than V1x or left dash for sure).  On charts it will be top three for compression. Wilson Staff R is slightly higher between the two.   Excellent balls for those who like firm feel on a ball.  It plays well with 0311ST which are soft feeling irons.

Hi, similar question about getting best swingweight in a Paradym TD head.

Getting a 505X at 46” and want the SW to be the advised D1 to D1.5.

With the stock 14g in back and 2g in front, how much weight do I need to remove?

Thanks!

Be sure to try it at the stock setting first. A lot of users are having great results and not giving up forgiveness/stability. The shaft can handle it easily.

Everything depends on tempo and then timing.  However there is a sweet spot for everyone, it just takes patients and lots of practice to find it.  Some find it to be heavier and some lighter, etc.  the D1-D1.5 is the recommendation from the OEM based on averages but it doesn’t mean everyone fits in that range.

By the way- I play mine at 46.  I had a couple of shafts

pin the past,  all at the same time with different heads.  For me with the SF505X at 46 in a Cally head was 191-193 range.  Once I moved up to the SF505XX the sweet spot was actually 200-202g.  I have my current set up with a TSR3 9* at 201g.  I’ve heard of others who play the SF505 and they play it as heavy as I do with the XX.  I also talked with a guy who still does a YouTube channel and he had his at a crazy light 188g with a Cally head.

Anyone out there tinkering/playing PXG 0311 Gen6 driver in the AF?

Currently messing around with the older Proto X - not there yet.

Word is the new PXG driver is a nice improvement over Gen5 so it must be leaps over the Proto X.

I got away from the AF for a year or so and now getting back in….if the PXG doesn’t work will got with TSR2 (I used the TSi3 previously in the AF.
