SM9s in March?

Word from TPI is a February launch, no revolution but evolution.

Just got fitted into T100s yesterday,

5-GW.

 

I now need two new Wedges because of the lofts. I had AP2 (46 PW) with 50.08F, 54.10M and 58.12K

 

I used the 

- 50 for full shots only (120

yards)

- 54 for full and partial shots (0-110 yards) and almost every shot around the green

- 58 for bunkers and flop shots only

 

Now that my GW has 48 Degrees, I would prefer to go with 52.10M and 60.12K so I can still hit full shots with a  wedge that fits my gapping and the 60 will fit my purpose as a bunker/flop wedge even better. But 52 is only available in F Grind.

Or what gapping would you recommend?

 

I will wait for the new SM9s. Until

then I will be playing my Kirkland Wedges (52,56,60) with 15 clubs in the bag so I can figure out if I really need a 56. Right now I don‘t think so.

Recommended gapping from a 48*: 52/58, 54/58 or 54/60. 

 

You can always go 54.12D bent to 52.10D for a 52 option.

 

I'd go with something other than 60.14K if that's your only high lofted wedge and you want to play open faced shots. You can always request hand grinds through Vokey Wedgeworks. You could add trail edge and heel relief to a 58 or 60.14K, making it a J Grind and decrease the effective bounce. 

 

Personally, I'd go 54.12D and 58.08M or 58.12D or 58J. All depends on sand and course conditions though!

Rumor is they're miura forged and have diamond encrusted micro grooves.  Apparently Bob demanded the grooves be capable of 10k rpm spin on all shots and all lies.   MSRP should be in the sub 100 range.

I love my new 60-10 S grind SM8. Waiting for them to drop in price and grab a 54-10 S grind to match. One thing that would interest me is Oil Can or Raw with no upcharge.

I was not really a fan of the sm8s hopefully the 9s will be an improvement.

ah yeah, if you didn't like the look then you could be happier. Reports are they are going to look more like the JDM style Vokey Forged wedges. But of course, speculation.

I didn’t like the shaping of the SM8’s. Really wish they would just go back to the SM6 look

If they do the same as they did with the SM7 upon SM8 release, they'll drop the price to like $119/per until stock just dwindles. Looking at a bunch of retailers, stock is already pretty thin.

Thanks for the tip! I looked at the post and I could be wrong, but it looks like the SM8 wedges to me (based upon the one on the far left). Given he tagged Titleist in his post, I would imagine he is following the embargo rules.

Yeah I thought they were 8's too.

 

I think it's more likely this was a teaser by AD.

I don’t understand why they would do the water resistance like mizuno and ping. It would make their wedges great.

That's the 58.06K that was released on wedgeworks in like 2015.

most people can use a 58, but I play better with a 60. So when I go to a 3 wedge setup, I go 47, 53, 60. I have no trouble hitting a full gap wedge. Anyways, Wedgeworks offers a 52 and 54 M grind I believe for people who have this conundrum.

At first I thought the M grind might have been different so I asked. PM responded the grinds were the same but something was added to help us use grinds more efficiently.
