Play resumed Monday in 45-degree, windy conditions, and both players again parred the hole before Lopez finally captured the win on the seventh attempt.

A new season is upon us, but it's tough to get excited with such a small field. I count 24 players, but I may be missing one. The event might be better if it was pushed back a few weeks to mid-February to give the tour a three tournament swing in Florida.

Weekend TV coverage is split between TGC and NBC, so check your DVR's schedule.

The forecast looks decent, although there's a 30 percent chance for showers on Saturday.

My pick this week is last year's runner up, Nasa. Inbee should also be a factor.

I guess it's asking too much for the LPGA to update the tee sheet three days before the start of the tournament.

I never understand a tournament like this:

  1.   A small purse
  2.   Celebrity centric publicity

It's might as well be a Diamond Resorts client appreciation outing than anything else.

Gotta make the sponsors happy...

Probably just as important an event for the things we don't see and behind the scenes as for the golf we do see when you're continually trying to grow your tour. Every football player in the event knows at least one billionaire.

New season and everyone starts with new hopes, although outside maybe a small psychological boost from starting fresh any rust IMO will be around the edges, they all basically played a month ago 🙂

So I'm gonna go with Brooke she always plays well here, 3 top 10's the last 3 times she played and one of those against PGA Champion players.  She'll do well if she can have a good 1st round, last season almost of her 1st rounds were average at best.

I thought there might be a little rust, but hey, what do I know? Nice bogey free rounds by Danielle and Gaby.

Jessica and Nelly made a few mistakes, but they had enough under par holes to keep pace.

I think I’ve said it before and I guess this is my “get off my lawn” moment but I HATE the way Danielle dresses. I get that I’m probably in the minority and it is what it is but I just feel she looks sloppy and unprofessional. Just my opinion.

You know, I've never even noticed how she dresses. But now that you mention it, "comfortable" springs to mind.

Re In Gee Chun. I just hope she is OK.

But on the topic of Ms. Chun, why is she being utterly ignored by the broadcasters? And this has been ongoing for some time. Last year she almost won the Scottish Open, and if she had, the winning player would not have been shown bar a few shots on the back 9 of round 4! Again, at this tournament, she was 2nd at -5 without being mentioned. She fell out of second with a triple, which also was not worthy of mention.

So how does this all work? Obviously there is a lot of money involved in terms of who gets shown and who doesn't. Do the broadcasters take money from player sponsors?

Meant to reply to a previous post. As a stand-alone statement it makes no sense!

Comfortable does describe it, but it also looks like what I might choose when playing on a Tuesday at the local muni.   For a “big deal” golf outing (televised!) I’d like to see a little more coordinated, stylish look.  But good for her to be playing so well - and if she wins  I’ll probably wish I’d picked her!

Kind of hoping she's not a trend-setter myself. But I am an old 🙂

Nah.   Danielle is like the bud you want to play golf with.   She'll laugh at your stupid jokes, as she sinks another 30 footer to take all your money.

She's waay cool

Articles like these really help to acquaint us to golfers like InGee.   They turn faces into people, and spectators into fans.

Good job

I agree. The LPGA should find a way to get more personalized articles out there. Makes the players more relatable, esp some of the Korean players who seem robotic from the outside.

In Gee Chun changed her putter for the first time on tour

"This is the first time I changed"; I used the same putter for 14 wins

""This is the first time I have changed putter while on tour.  I had my last 14 wins with the same putter, but for the first time, I changed the putter into a mallet shape," said Chun In Gee.

She said, "But this seems to fit me very well. I practiced putting a lot before starting the season with this new putter. It made me comfortable on the green and helped me read the green a lot," she said."
