For some reason I feel like that trade is gonna fall apart or Cards gonna have to give up more. Sounds like a heist

I kind of have the same feeling.  Not sure how we don’t give up more to get him.  Projected to not be any of our top prospects...  Is there something wrong with him?  Rockies are even giving us money on top.  Perhaps he will end up a rental for some of our upcoming 3B prospects...?

Exactly why I think we don’t have the real details

our best prospect plays third, our first round pick plays third.......

rockies just lost their generational third baseman

hmmm

maybe they’re just dumb lol

Could be...?  Gotta love the “players to be named later” or “on the condition of anonymity”...  ugh.  I just want the Cards to win another World Series!

For tournament play, it doesn't have to be new,  it's got to be 'like new' condition. For casual play, just decent looking. For casual golf I use the balls I don't want for tournament play. Got to get rid of them some how, so it doesn't bother my to lose a couple here and there.

Based upon what was disclosed about the trade, seems like we did get a steal.  Time will tell!  Seems like another Scott Rolen...

I usually play a new ball until the stash in my bag gets too full. Then I start recycling.

First tee, which do you tee up?

  • shiny, new ball every time
  • any scuff-free version of your gamer, previously cleaned and ready to go, freshly marked up again
  • any version of your gamer, gotta chuck it in the ball washer before you throw it on the tee
  • whatever you grab out of your ball pocket in your bag because it doesn't really matter which ball I play...

Follow-up question - if you hit a "breakfast ball", "first hole mully", "small bucket" or whatever you want to call it, same as above, or is that less picky?

I am asking this because I often feel odd when I have to wash a ball on the first tee...  (pre-COVID when we could still have ball washers)

I have a habit of playing with the best possible ball that I could afford, or find, at any moment. My game is not that great, so I want to take every advantage possible from my equipment. First tee is no different. A new ball on first tee just feels good.

First tee I generally don't use the best ball I have since it usually ends up in the woods. For the breakfast ball I'll use a used/recycled ball that is in good shape. I almost always play with used balls. Not good enough to see the difference and a good condition used balls should perform the same as new.

Good points. What I am thinking is if I put a new ball on the tee to start with, it adds pressure to succeed. Sounds sort of strange, but I can't tell the difference, as well, between a new ball and an unblemished used ball for performance.

Either new or unblemished and freshly thru the ball washer.

I realized I never actually stated what I do myself...  in my own topic... ooops.

I usually do this too.  I will usually start an individual tourney with a new ball, and I kind of like to use a ball with #1 on it in day 1 (I guess I have some superstition).  Not as picky on number on second day, if two day tourney.  League days, just some version of my gamer with no scuffs.  I will color my markings again so they are fresh though...

On casual rounds, I will just play a decent condition previously used ball.  I do have to say there is a bit of pride I feel playing the same ball for a high number of rounds before I either lose it or damage it.  When I can play it until you really can’t even tell what it is, for some reason I think that is kinda cool. Eventually it will get a scuff or find its way into the water on hole 2 (reachable par 5 surrounded by water on 3 sides) during a casual round.  My home course doesn’t offer a lot of opportunities to lose a ball, typically, so they tend to last a while.  At $4 per ball, that isn’t the worst, I guess.

I get rid of my oldest first and since I lose about 3 balls each time that I play. So an old ball from the 1st tee for me.

Yep, exactly... you don't want to be worrying about losing that shiny new ball when you tee off. Used balls for most folks takes the cost factor out of the equation. I've seen several blogs publish tests showing little to no difference in performance between new and used. It's mostly a human hitting a ball and looking at data from a launch monitor so there'll be some variation in swing. I do make sure though that the balls I play are not refinished or refurbished.

When I'm trying to find out a gamer ball, it's a new one on the first tee. However, now that I think I've found one I'll go the used gamer ball route.
