Driver - Contact low on the face every swing

Recommended Posts

Athletic person who can usually make adjustments and adapt pretty quick. Can't seem to find the center line or slightly above no matter what I try. Always a few MM low according to GC quad. affects my spin numbers and I'm losing carry because of it.

I've tried teeing the ball up higher (honestly feels like its way too high already)

I've tried moving it a little further back in the stance to try and get low point closer (Front toe closer to front heel or even a ball inside the foot)

I've tried to reduce my upward angle of attack

I've tried moving it further away + move it closer to me.

Idk running out of ideas - getting frustrated when I feel like I'm smashing center of the face and reporting comes back -3/-5/-7mm low toe.

Thoughts and ideas I can try?

PS - I tried search function and didn't see any previous threads that jumped out at me.

How positive is your AoA? Lots of people that love to play launch monitor golf, especially on foresight launch monitors which contain a distance algorithm that disproportionately rewards low spin. Everyone changes significantly positive AoA so they can play an 8 * loft driver and have like 1800 spin.

If you feel like you're teeing it up way too high then this is likely the case. You're probably swinging way up and when you do this your miss is going to be low on the face. You likely will have to tee it lower, move it more back in stance and not swing up as much.

I don't recall exactly what my #'s were but I feel like it was 3 degrees up? There were some swings where i did tee it lower and further back and I was neutral to 1-2 degrees down I think.

The most likely candidate is vertical shaft in transition and/or trail shoulder dropping excessively/early.

I quite literally see these issues multiple times per day.   With my swing as well.

Low and heel.

Monte -- Low and heel is always my [face] miss. I'm assuming the vertical shaft and shoulder-dropping are common results from something else. Do you find that it's most often a result of trying to hit up on the driver (with some in-to-out path intentions)? I suspect that's my problem when I'm not mindful of it.

If you yank the handle for lag then try and hit up....it’s a miracle if you don’t hit it low and in the heel. 😜

Have you verified that is where the actual contact point is? Not to distrust the monitor but I would think there would be some movement changing everything around.

I guess I've relied on the launch monitor specs to tell me it.

What's the best approach to test on my own? Thought I've seen tape or spray on the face methods??

Foot powder is one way or just feel if you have that ability.

from a feel perspective - Most balls feel low which matches the monitor data... but some swings it feels like I'm dead nuts crushing it and the monitor still says low. The amount of spin being generated is elevated on those still though, so that supports contact still being low.

Feel vs real differences maybe.

I've been living a driver swing nightmare for the last year and a half.  I'm sure you have a higher swing speed and better mechanics than I do, but possibly you are pulling out on your finish, which was one of my biggest problems.  Take note of your position when you finish your swing.  if you are tilted slightly to the left (right handed golfer), this could be it.  If you are balanced, or even a slight tilt to the right, you are finishing correctly with a lower probability of catching it low on the face.

It would likely still help. Or just post a video and eliminate the guess work 🙂

oh boy... not sure I'm ready for that community lashing hah

If I were to record and post... what angles make diagnosis of my issues easier? Face on? down the target line from behind?

OK Pinhigh ,

I will explain this to you and Km so you can reply and tell me I am crazy and don’t know what I am talking about .

The human EXTREMITIES - our * HANDS* ( particularly the dominant RIGHT HAND of a rightie  are the DOMINANT parts of the human .
Almost 1/2 of our brain is dedicated to those DOMINANT EXTREMITIES. Those DOMINANT HANDS can NOT be hidden from its brain ! They are it’s external brains which CONTROLS almost all body movements. The body will always position itself to accommodate the path those HANDS decide / desire to travel ! The left side of the brain CONTROLS right side movements and more that 80 % of it is dedicated to the right side .
WHEN THE HANDS PULL THE SHAFT BACK AROUND BEHIND OUR TORSO  OUT OF EYESIGHT AND ARE PULLED DOWN AT HIGH SPEEDS the responsibility to place the face on the ball is left up to WHAT  ??? - The some things that Michael Jordan used to direct a basketball to the net . For Nolan Ryan to direct a pitch  across an 18 inch ( ? ) base . For the third baseman to direct a ball to first base in 2/1 0 seconds .
Thanks for your reply !
