Are any of these guys on tour actually built/strong? Is fitness that impactful in golf?

lol. Brady is a 3 time league MVP (Should have more) who lead the league in deep passing this year. 40 TDs and 4600 yards in a Bruce Arians offense.

Tom aired it out when he was young and he still airs it out

And I have more impressive arms and shoulders than he does, so point is still valid, maybe more so.

How do you explain then Rory hitting 300 as a teenager, and what is quite common in amateur golf now of talented teenagers absolutely bombing the ball, or thin, wiry players like Justin Thomas or Cameron Champ hitting it so long?

Partly because he learned to launch it at a young age.  As the younglings are all doing it now.  In years past nobody tried to hit driver that high.  Why ?  Impossible to control.  But the rest is natural fast twitch.    I am not an expert by any means. But. I’m sure there are tests for muscle - hand performance , and I’d bet each are off the charts.

Rahm has a strong, not particularly athletic, frame. He put on at least 20lbs. He's settling into fatherhood perfectly.

Rahm looks like he should be playing rugby.   His legs look a bit short for his torso but really thick, and  his hips are big, he looks like all of his strength is in his lower body.

I feel like saying none is hyperbole. So none of these guys even looked strong at all?

It's not hyperbole. I watched the WCG Bridgestone in person two years in a row (before it moved venues) where it was just the top 64 players in the world and EVERY player was shockingly small in person. Quite a few were tall but they were bean poles. Even Phil who looks chubby on TV and Koepka who is supposed to be jacked were tiny. The biggest guy I saw was Johnny Vegas (spelling?) but he was just your average guy who lifts.

If you’ve been to tournaments then you know these guys are average looking. A few have builds where you go yeah he works out but anyone who works out, eats healthy, and has a 9-5 grind goes “wtf man they play a sport for a living and are millionaires and that’s the best physique they can come up with?”

great description.  Imagine these guys with normal clothes down the street.  You'd think thin.  They have the magic of natural speed and they are strong and elastic.  I think the body type has changed with the modern swing.  Until the 80's strong players used to have thick forearms and big hands and you found thin guys like Tom Watson, stocky like Lee Trevino, lanky like Byron Nelson or beer bellied like Craig Stadler.

Rory is legitimately tiny, an objectively small human and obviously hits it hard. He is lean but still tiny.

Gym is more so for injury prevention than golf performance gains. You can't look at Zalatoris or Thomas and say you need to be strong to hit it far. These guys have pencils for limbs.

Lot of BS regarding physical fitness training for golf.

BK could be mistaken for an NFL linebacker, TW could have been mistaken back in '98 (but NFL player size has grown since '98). I think fitness does play a large role, but golfers can't lift full-time and golf 4+ rounds per week over the long-term without something breaking. So there's a compromise with fitness (except during long down-time, which is why you saw BDC get big during long down-time).

I think you have no idea what an NFL linebacker looks like. BK could be mistaken for a punter maybe

Nope, maybe you're comparing BK to one of the larger LBs, but the average LB is about Fred Warner size. I think BK and Fred Warner are very similar build.

Bryson also never really got big, he got fat. There's a difference.

That would be some mistake. Brooks is a strong, fit guy who is noticeably bigger than the typical PGA player. But that's it.

I've seen all of them, minus Bryson.  I don't know what your description of big is, but it's different in golf than let's say football.

You misunderstood my post.  I'm talking physique, not how far they hit it.  The guys you're talking about are on the smaller side.  Rory is not big at all but is ripped to shreds.

Just for clarification you're talking about pre fusion Tiger, right?  His body undergoes a clear transformation between when he came out on tour as wiry and became pretty thick.  In my opinion he looks substantially less bulky post fusion probably intentionally to reduce stress or just because his training is limited.

Bryson is the most significant case.  When he changed his body he went to 240 and said the end goal was 270.  At 240 he had a big increase in swing speed.  However he said that he was no longer shooting for 270 because carrying 240 over 72 holes affected his energy level so going to 270 would be even more difficult to maintain energy.

Absolutely.  I should've made myself clear.  He was big at one point before he started suffering all those injuries.  If I remember right, he's lost some weight because of all the stress of carrying all that weight on his knees and lower back.  Brooks and Bryson have been bigger but have lost weight.  They did hit it further when they weighed more because they were probably stronger back then.  Like you said, being that big sucks because your stamina suffers.

I've seen them all. Stood right next to them all, except new Bryson. They are nothing but average, except for Stallings who has definitely leaned out nicely, and has the best "fit" body on tour, by far, but he's not "Big." He's more fit than probably everyone on tour, definitely.

Right on.  You beat me to the punch.  How many fast twitch fibers def play a role is ss.  The more you have, the chances you have to hit the ball further exponentially increase.  ESPN did a segment where they were explaining how much more hip and shoulder turn he gets than the tour average.

I wouldn't say average.  Remember, this is about who are the bigger guys on tour.  All the guys I listed are bigger than the tour average.  We are comparing apples to apples here.
