PING i210 replacement when?

Recommended Posts

It will be interesting to see how they market the tech in these - especially if the bar insert guess is correct and it is uniform in weight longitudinally.  Essentially it is a VERY minimally perimeter weighted muscle back.  I’m not opposed to that but the allure of Ping for many is their imaginative use of engineering creativity.

It seems to be somewhat iBladey. I would love to know why tour players did not gravitate to the i59.

If i was to guess, too low spin for tour players trying to hold hard greens.  Even some of the players that switched did so in their shorter irons, but maintained iBlades with higher spin in their longer irons.

Spin is not as big a concern with steeper descent angles of shorter irons.

Much more ie1 / iBlade than i200 lineage imo

Sole width looks drastically similar to iBlade

Perhaps with the 4xx series moving towards the players side over the past 1-2 iterations and with the introduction of the 5 & 7 series, Ping feels free to move the i series more towards a true players iron.

The iBlade was one of the most popular of Pings iron offerings and many of their pros did not move to i59.

Maybe the new i has a thinner sole, less offset in longer irons and is a paring of the i210 and iBlade.  That would be quite an iron.

Hoping there is nothing forged on it, or Ping will price a set at $2500.

I heard it’s a feel thing in addition to low spin. They feel clicky.

This will be extremely interesting. How will they create differentiation between the 525 and the 230. Right now it’s strange between the 525 and 210. The 525 has less offset and allegedly more forgiveness, kind of a contradiction in the players they are aiming them towards.

That could be a worthy successor to the i210 legacy.

The fact that Hatton put them in play that quickly speaks volumes.

As someone who has gamed both the i210 and the i525 I find them very different. The i525 is for people who want more distance and less spin. The i210 is one of the highest spinning (and shortest nowadays) cavity back irons on the market. I expect that to continue with the i220/230.

The best players want less tech than the i525 and more consistency of a plain 1 piece cast or forging. The pics look like ie1 with a smaller cavity and toe screw.

The i525 are too long and low spin for most of the best players IMO. I don't think most top players with high swing speeds need to be hitting 200 or 220 yard 7 irons.

I think what Titleist has done with the T100 is a good benchmark. Small footprint with a little cavity back and some weighting for MOI but more pop/ballspeed than the AP2's.

Exactly. Wanted to like the 525 but the spin was just too low for me. I didn’t have the 210’s but I played the I200’s and the spin, launch and distance were exactly what I was looking for.

I completely agree with that assessment. I just believe that those who want more distance lower spin probably want more offset and a thicker top line, while those who want more precision and consistency want less offset and a thinner top line. Seems weird that right now it’s the opposite with 525 and 210.

Was really hoping this wouldn't have a toe screw, but then again I was also a fan of the elastomer insert.

Means nothing really but a sports marketing company who have been told not to release photos of them have said to me they are going to be very popular from what they’ve seen if these while shooting Hatton’s bag. I tried to get a little sneaky look at them but they wouldn’t let me. Also they had no idea on price range for them. Would love them to follow the i210 price, very much wishful thinking that is though!
