Three Wood Recomendations

tim_joyce

Recommended Posts

I’ve never been able to hit a 3 Wood until I took a flyer on a used Cobra SpeedZone. The stock Tensei AV Blue is good but, I was fitted for a Mitsubishi C6 Blue so I’m hoping I hit it a little better.

I’ve tried - TS2, Sim Max and TSi2. Great clubs. None of them quite worked for me. Especially, off the deck.

The SZ just works for me. When you connect, man does it go!

Tour Edge from 2007-2014. Best 3 woods ever.

True!

I have been playing a 2014 Exotics XCG7 Beta that blows the doors off any modern day 3 wood. Easy to hit from tee or fairway, forgiving, solid sound, square face and longer than anything made today. What else could you ask for?

I run the Cobra Radspeed woods for both 3w and 5w. Love them. They feel great, the ball flight is great, the mishits still go pretty far. I'm impressed with them and would certainly recommend them.

I carried and struggled with a 3W for years.  Finally gave up and bought a 5 wood, delofted a degree and now smash this thing on good shots just a few yards short of the “good ones” with the 3W which were few and far between.

One other note, I did learn through the 5W buying process…that I spent 3-4 years owning that 3W with a shaft that was a terrible fit for me.  That was likely a huge part of the problem.  It was an old club that I likely needed to replace anyway, but part of me has wondered what that experience might have been like had it been fitted with the right shaft in the first place

I have had those, but still have the CBX 119,

and the EXS Pro in the bags, as I found these Tour Edge fairways bomb it,

Look up clubtests on YouTube, can give the OP some help from info, also can look up Tour Edge on these forums.

My Mavrik 3w is the best I've ever had, shaft would be irrelevant to you because I don't have your SS, but it's great from the tee and the fairway.

I got the Mavrik driver and the Mavrik Max 3W for the forgiveness, the Max is slightly draw biased but easier to hit off the deck for me, I love the driver and fairway wood-so easy to hit. If you are already hitting a draw and don't want to have to cut it, I would take a look at the regular Mavrik

Sim Ti and Sim 2 Ti both seem like cheat codes to me. Give them a shot.

I’m very loyal when it comes to 3 woods. I had a Callaway Steelhead X with steel shaft that I played for probably close to 8 years before I finally felt comfortable going to graphite shaft. I’ve been playing the Callaway XR now for about 5 years and crush it off tee or deck. I may be open to newer technology 3 woods soon, but why change of it still works?

Good luck in your search for the right 3 wood!

I had some rewards that were expiring, so I got a used M6 D type 3 wood for a good price with lots of discounts. I have not yet hit my M6 D type driver, so who knows. 🤣

Consider a 5-wood, it's MY best 3 wood.  I switched from a Cobra Speedback 3 wood to a Cobra Speedzone 5 wood and adjusted it down to 17° (making it a 4 wood) because I had to make a perfect swing to get the 3 wood up in the air with the trajectory I wanted.  The 5 wood has the launch and trajectory I want without any effort to get it airborne and I hit it much more consistently than the 3 and almost as long.  I haven't lost anything by changing, except for the occasional bomb off the tee, which was supposed to go shorter than the driver anyway.

Ping G400.  Hated the driver just couldn't get along with it, but I don't know if I'll ever get rid of my G400 3w. For some reason I just don't miss with it whether its in  the fairway or off the tee. Weird to say that a 3w may be the one of the two easiest clubs in my bag to hit, but this club just works for me.

I had my SIM2 MAX 3W bent flatter and added some hotmelt and it's been a beast since then.

Ping G425 has been the best I have ever hit...I can do with just the 5 wood.

I made this into a 16* strong 4 wood. With a Tour AD DI shaft it has been longer than a 15* 3 wood for me.

I picked up the Cleveland Halo XL which is similar in shape to the Ping G’s I had in the bag over many years but just a slightly taller face profile, great distance and forgiveness.

I was looking to make a switch as the Cobra RADSPEED Big Tour caught my interest since I have a RADSPEED XB PTC edition which is pretty awesome. Well long story short I made 3 eagles this year all dues to my Epic Max 3W and 5W as I had some awesome drives to help out but I'm extremley satisfied with the Epic Max 5W as the 3W gets me the distance I want but it has punished me more than I like as there are so many good fairway woods out there. The Epic Max did kick out my PING G425's earlier this year so if that means anything. It's a nice 3W but the winner for 2021 is the TaylorMade Sim 2 Max which is my gamer. I like having the infinity face on my RADSPEED, Twist Face on my SIM 2 Max and Flash Face SS21 on my 5W. I actually like the idea of experiencing the best of technology from 3 different brands
