New LAB golf putter—Mezz

I used a small Rosemark on my DF 2.1 and it was fine. You still need some forward press however.

With the Mezz, when it’s soled, already has forward shaft lean (about 2* I believe) drilled into the head. What the LAB Press grip does is it “compensate” for the lean internally by allowing the shaft to sit at angle inside the grip while the grip is in a perfectly vertical position.

 

As such, you can set your hands up or down the Press

 grip & it will not change the lean - the grip is perfectly vertical

 

Now if you take any other normal grip like Superstroke, your grip will be at an angle since there is no compensation. If you do not mind that, you are good…

Hope this helps explain why they recommend the Press grip

LAGP is a bit more of a thud. Accra a bit more lively

I have a Stability shaft in my current putter, but I am considering an LAGP shaft with this putter.  How do these 2 shafts compare?

LAGP is gonna be a bit stiffer and more thuddy

Got my Mezz today, pretty excited to take it out to the course tomorrow! Will post some thoughts after the round. I enjoyed the DF 2.1 but once I had a couple of bad putting rounds the looks made it easy to replace 😄 . This one seems perfect. Ordered 12/22 and in my hands in 2 weeks, awesome work by LAB. The Accra shaft and 1.5 grip look and feel great.

 

One question though - isn't this the headcover that is/was being replaced? Cause this one has some issues (pretty badly sewn, misshapen off center patch and velcro strips, too long on the flaps, etc.) and doesn't really give off the quality vibe the rest of the putter has. Seeing people who ordered before me got the updated canvas cover, so pretty confused about getting this one after the fact.

Played 9 this morning. My thoughts are this putter is really excellent. It has a really nice feel, smooth but I can tell when I've slightly mishit it, and it just stays on line so, so well.

 

I had been in a bit of a putting quagmire lately and just recently started to get back on track. Today I had 15 putts over 9 holes including some near misses, and a number of 1 putts. That's really good for me and I'm pretty excited to keep working with it.

 

Pros:

Feel

Exceptional roll

New shape is really well done

Accra shaft - love it

1.5 grip fits the Mezz perfectly

 

Cons:

the headcover (which I will hopefully be swapping)

My Mezz just arrived, very excited!, but also came with same head cover, so I'm also confused.

Yep, got my MEZZ today as well and received the leather like Velcro head cover.  I ordered mine with the Accra shaft.  I’m really liking it on my putting matt.  Purposely hit off the toe and heel and as others have stated the ball just holds it line.  Looking forward to taking it out on the course soon.

Following for the headcover discussion.  My Mezz showed up Wednesday and I've enjoyed it on the carpet so far.  But the headcover is so shoddy compared to my DF2.1.  Hoping there is an improved version coming!  It feels like a supermodel in a Salvation army flannel 😆

Since the Mezz headcover is somewhat of a soup sandwich, has anyone looked into a custom cover?  Craftsman makes a large center shafted mallet cover.  Not sure of the fit though.  It's 5.5" wide by 5" deep.

Honestly the key would be getting a center shafted mallet cover, then I think any standard size would fit. The Mezz is a smallish mallet. I've thought about looking for some custom cover options, will post if I find anything interesting.

The updated canvas cover is really excellent - thank you LAB for getting that out to people. Can we expect some fun headcover designs in the future now that you've nailed the design? 😉

 

Still getting used to the Mezz, but it's mainly training myself out of manipulating the putter head. I've made some really long, incredible putts but also have missed some shorties. A work in progress, but definitely worth the work. Already have shaved 2 putts per round and I'd say I'm still in the adjustment period. The roll on the ball with the Mezz is really outstanding.

@labgolfIf I wanted to increase the swingweight of a Mezz (or any LAB putter) without messing up the torque balance about the lie angle too much, couldn't I add mass in an axisymmetric fashion to the shaft near the head?  Example: wrap strips of lead tape around the shaft near the putter head.

That would work, yes. You can also reach out to customer service and they can take you through how to do it with lead tape on the bottom

I just received my Mezz.1 yesterday, played a few holes, and a few thoughts:

 

a.  Has anyone had to alter or change their setup or stroke at all?

b.  Any lefties out there?  I ordered mine with the Press 1.5 and the grip look and texture is totally different than the righty model, honestly don't love it.

c.  Mine came with the fabric headcover and its great

 

I am new to LAB, so any putting tips welcomed.

Well, I have been missing a lot of putts, but definitely an element of user error...I do not like the way the grip feels however, its sticky and smooth to the touch compared to the righty version with the sort of perforations.  I am very optimistic about the putter though!
