Instead of the D9 4 iron, why don’t you just grab a Staff Model CB 4 iron?

I thought about that but the blade length is pretty short on the Staff Model CB; not sure how much of a forgiveness upgrade it would be. Also looking for something I can hit off the tee on tight par 4s so the D9 forged would seem to fit the bill.

Seems to me that the non TM/Cally companies are slow to release product. Cobra is 2 months late and Wilson should be launching in late fall as well.  I remember I made a decision on the C300 forged irons and woods well before the major OEM releases.  Caught my attention well before they released their product.

Seems like they (Wilson) traditionally  show  product on sites like this in the Fall. I think it's too early since you couldn't buy the clubs. Now it seems the supply chain is slowing everything down.

I dont think they have to be tied to the "big guys" launch dates.

If the product is good and they market it well for once they will be fine. There doens't seem to be a high bar to clear to keep their shareholders happy.

Found a bit of info on the D9 Forged Irons.

It's a good looking iron.

These look good. Can’t really tell but it looks like they are keeping the rubber slots in the sole. Not a fan of those. Wish they’d move on from them.

I’m a die hard W/S guy but they lost me when they upped the price of their  blades by roughly $200 due to the pandemic! I still play the d9 driver and woods though, they’re as good , forgiving, and as long as my SUM2 Max driver. I dumped the Max2 fairway I had in favor of the d9s! Great job here W/S. I went, unfortunately, another route for irons,  where the prices hadn’t gone up and there was no up charge for the shaft I chose!  I still have my forever faithful FG17s that’ll most likely find their way back into the bag like always! Here’s to the new year of upcoming golf!!

Power holes weren’t an issue for me with the C300 forged.  I think 8 to G had none and I found the transition from the 7 to be fine.  Likely aesthetics is the issue for most.

So you don't want the irons to have the tech and features they've become known for? OK.

W/S doesn't have the economies of scale that someone like TM or Cally has. So they need to compensate for their increased raw materials costs in other ways. Price increases are one of them. If you're a die hard then you understand that and you'll continue to support them.

Why does that matter? You don't see them at address...

Really hoping they release a LH 2i to use as a UDI.

I completely understand. They’ve got deep pockets I believe, the web site is horrible. Had to go through local guy last time I custom ordered irons just to see if it was even an option, which it was. I still support them, don’t get me wrong, but we are 2 years into this mess! TM didn’t raise prices, not yet at least. Cally underpriced TM on the  upcoming drivers. I get the whole marketing thing, but come on. As I mentioned, still have and will keep the d9 driver, 3,and 5 wood in the bag. They make some great products. Long live W/S!

Titleist and PING raised prices.  I just assumed everyone did, is that not the case?  Wilson Staff stuff is still less than most competitors.

Unless I missed something, TM and Cally hung in at the same. I ordered TM iron set and DHY, and they’d been at the price point since they came out. Just seems odd to me, it’s the pandemic as they say,  I know. Bags went up too at W/S. Pings new 59 irons are outrageously priced I think.

Tm and Cally had built in cushion in their current pricing to absorb worldwide industrial cost increases. WS didn’t have that padding. It’s pretty simple really. Do some research, most industries have seen 15-40% cost increase in the past year.

This, very much. TM and Callaway have had the sales volume (and the higher starting price) to absorb materials cost increases without taking too much of a hit to their revenue. Wilson/Staff does not have those sales figures. While Wilson as an umbrella brand may have a lot of money due to all of their various sporting product lines, they're not going to take losses in one division and try to cover it up with earnings from another. Their pricing was already below some of the major well-known OEMs. So they had to raise it to compensate - that's what happens.

Looking forward to the D9 forged as I need a new 4 iron to pair with my Staff Model Blade 5-PW set. Hope they make it in lefty.

I believe they are.

While the CBs have a thicker topline than the V6s they replaced, it still has a small sweet spot. I usually only get like 210 out of it, but when I pure it it's in the 225 range.

I am with ORR. I just can’t get past the power holes.  Now Wilson in my opinion has the BEST looking iron out there in the Staff Blade.  Truely a thing of beauty which unfortunately is well beyond my skill capabilities.  Makes me want to buy a set just to drool at them.

You might be surprised how easy the Staff blades play if you have the right shaft.
