No, i got the same error when i found the URL. i just meant that they are prepping to publish pages for the 923 series, because that URL showed up in the sitemap.

has anyone ever made a combo set of HM and HM Pros? to get max forgiveness in long irons but less offset in short irons

I know ppl do HM or HM Pro in long irons and then forged or tour in short irons, wasn't sure of HM combo with HM pro

yep! I did this with a loaner set while my HM’s were getting reshafted. Now I have withdrawals lol.

Same here although I’m not sure they would make the soles thin enough to match the 223’s which is a deal breaker for me. Now that I have drank the kool aid of the chromoly 5 to 7 and standard block 8 to GW in a “pro series” there is likely no going back for me.

Still gutted there will be no SEL or LH 923 Tour. The JPX Tour line has always haunted me and the one model they go SELwith it’s pretty unanimously the “down” model. T100 it is.

I want to chime in and say that handicap has very little to do with what irons you should be playing. Hcp is an aggregate score determined by a dozen factors. Full shot iron play really only makes up a moderate portion of tee shots and a majority of approach shots, which is a small part of your handicap.

 

I’m a mid handicap. Somewhere between 15 and 20 right now. This is primarily due to poor tee performance. I rarely hit fairways and am constantly scrambling but I do much better in terms of GIR and short game. My brother is a similar handicap and he is the opposite, great off the tee and struggles everywhere else. As a result, our bag makeups are very different. We joke that if we mix and matched our games, we’d have a scratch player and a 40Hcp. This is why we have fittings.

 

I spent 2.5 hours and over 150 shots doing an iron fitting yesterday. We tested everything from ZX4s to P7MBs. I was actually the longest with the right flight and most consistent with the smallest dispersion using 620 CBs. If I let my handicap dictate my iron choice, I’d have gotten ZX5s or similar, which were actually the worst performing irons for me. I lost 20 yards and sprayed them everywhere.

 

Last point: this year more than ever, the line between MP and JPX are blurred. MP no longer automatically means only low handicap, and JPX no longer means only high handicap, though they do lean that way.

 

The 225s are in line with the P770 and P790 despite being labelled as “Mizuno Pro.” The JPX 921 Tour is more in line with a T100/T100S despite the “JPX” moniker. If I had to order them in terms of forgiveness level for me then I would go 221, Tour, 223, 225/Forged (almost equal, pick your sole width), Hot Metal Pros, and Hot Metals.

 

Dont be afraid to go try out some irons because they seem designed for “better players.” You never know, your iron game might be poor because you need the “better player iron” to unlock you.

This has always been an ongoing issue.  However if they can FINALLY make a gap wedge for the 223, surely they can figure this out,  at least for the HMP.  The GW addition was one of the reasons I pulled the trigger on the 223’s.

I'd actually consider a combo of Tour 7-GW and HMP 7-6-5  ( yes 2x 7i ).

The Tours for hopeful added spin and closer gapping in my scoring clubs, and HMP for distance and forgiveness.

But I'm impatient and don't want to wait until Feb for the Tours, so will order all-HMP ( 5-PW/GW ) as soon as available and see how they work indoors.  I have a JPX-900F GW on hand, which is one of my favourites as I love it's ground leading edge for greenside chips ( prevents digging ).

This has become a popular refrain, but is worded much too aggressively.  Handicap has a major positive correlation with the iron type you should be playing.  Maybe 1% of the PGA doesn't play tour or players irons.  Maybe 1% of duffers should be in anything other than GI or SGI irons.  The numbers are less extreme for low single digit, and for high teens, but there is still positive correlation between iron type and handicap.  

 

That is not to say there are not exceptions to this rule.  There are many, numbers-wise, if not percentage-wise.  The golfer who would be scratch other than their (fill in their blank - driver, chipping, or putter) and are instead a 12, while as common as 190 balls speed guys on this site, is one rarely seen on the course.  

 

Try many irons to see what works for you, of course.  But if you're a plus handicap, -likely- tour or players irons is where you should land, and if you're a teen handicap or higher, -likely- GI or SGI irons is where you should land.

I'm also going to test a 923 HMP 4i on top of my 921Ts.  Hopefully it blends a bit better than the 921.

With the 900 forged I use a HM 4 iron.  If I move into the 923 forged I’m strongly considering HMP 4-6…

 

I might end up ordering the 6 iron in both HMP and forged 🙂

I just wanted to jump in here and say that this is very well said.  While there are some people who are 20 handicaps that need "tour" irons, that segment of the population is vanishingly small.  Instead, most, if not all tweener handicaps (i.e. 10+) would probably play significantly better if they opted for a player's distance iron or even a full GI iron like a Stealth, G425, or similar.  I'm by no means good, a 12.9 handicap at the moment, and I have noticed since switching to these PXGs that my misses are so much better than they were before with my MP20 HMBs.  I will catch a piece of the green on a pretty poor strike (unless I do something really dumb) and find that they pierce through the wind and hold their line much better than other irons I have had in the past.  Checking my ego at the door has been a positive change for my game.  

 

Back on topic, those 923 Tours look great.  I loved the look of the 900 and 919 Tours but really didn't like the 921.  These are a much needed aesthetic improvement, IMO.

Thxs for posting.  Browsed the website.  No gap wedge as part of the HMP set.  There’s an HM “HL” model now.  Overall designs don’t look much different than the 921.  The 223 was such a game changer in terms of set makeup/ jeckyl and Hyde on the long and short iron transition in terms of forgiveness such that I can’t see the 923 Forged being a replacement option for me but we shall see.
