How did Mi Hyang Lee qualify?

Yeah, Mi Hyang doesn't seem high-enough on the latest LPGA Priority List (#185 as at 3/24, i.e. Category 15 "Nos. 101-125: Members finishing Nos. 101-125 (and ties) on the previous year's season-ending Points List. Priority is based on the order of the list.")

https://www.lpga.com/-/media/files/priority-list/2022/2022-lpga-priority-listupdate032422.pdf

Blank Page, on the LPGA's Chevron "Tournament Entries" page?
https://www.lpga.com/tournaments/chevron-championship/tournament-entries

presumably the LPGA Priority List/ Race-to-CME = the primary criteria?

Possibly she got entry, via KLPGA league table ranking?

fyi... #191 per latest Rolex Rankings (https://www.rolexrankings.com/rankings)

Veering off topic a bit: what do the agents actually ask for that make the players sometimes go without it? (Quite a few from Southeast Asia don’t engage in them btw)

Sorry, I didn't respond to this part of the question earlier.

The concept of agency is simple; "the agency invests money and resources to grow the business of young athletes, for a cut of their future income".

The agency usually asks for 8-10% of future income; it's up to the athlete and family to decide whether it's worth it.

"8 to 10%"?

(A) "In tennis and golf, agents do not make commissions from their clients' on-court/course earnings, only from the marketing dollars they help generate, for which they receive an average of 20%. Thus, agencies and agents who represent players in these two sports are measured by those marketing figures and not winnings." (22 Dec 2020: https://www.forbes.com/sites/jasonbelzer/2020/12/22/the-worlds-most-powerful-sports-agents-2020-scott-boras-shows-his-clients-the-money/?sh=1455e67b25bc )

=====

(B) "Agent’s Cut: 10 to 20 percent of non-tournament earnings." (https://golf.com/travel/big-time-bucks-heres-how-much-money-is-made-and-paid-by-the-average-tour-pro/)

=====
(C) This ESPN article (from circa ~2016) mentions the heightened competition has reduced agent commissions significantly?

https://www.espn.com.sg/espn/story/_/id/18268246/how-jerry-maguire-ruined-sports-agency-industry

Quote:

Quote

"As the players got more guarantees, the money actually declined. Why? Because all of the competition spawned insanely low commission fees. What used to be a four percent fee on a contract was reduced, in some cases, by half. Some agents forced fees even lower in order to score big-name athletes. That means that the money on some of the deals would have had to have been four times as much, or more, to make up for the players' increasing demands for agents to take a smaller piece of their financial pie. Pretty soon, the athlete representation business didn't even make sense to the big acquirers, who eventually spit them out."

Note: Am assuming this ~4% indicative agents fee = refers to non-golf... as the source in (A) above mentions the following: "Agent fees are typically capped and regulated by the players associations, with the top commissions allowed by FIFA (10%) and Major League Baseball (5%), which gives a ranking advantage to soccer and baseball agents.

The NHL and NBA both allow fees to hit 4%, and the NFL caps them at 3%."

A lot of champions missing in the photo.

I assume the dinner is not an actual event.

I assume it’s just one player’s selfie of one of the tables.  Pretty sure it’s an actual event held every year mimicking the Masters champions’ dinner.  A group photo of all the attendees usually surfaces during the week of the tournament.

Pairings are out (https://media.lpga.com/)

Some of the featured groups we will probably see on the broadcast:

Lexi/Jin Young

Atthaya/Inbee

Danielle/Patty T.

Brooke/Lydia

Also: A Perth pairing with Minjee and Hannah Green; a Solheim reunion with Salas and Kupcho but otherwise lots of random pairings

And since we have an odd number of competitors, one player gets to play all by herself, and the lucky winner this year is Annie Park. Is this the only tournament in all of golf that does this?

Maybe I'm wrong but I don't remember them ever going off in groups of 2 at this event, I'm all for it though

Sigh. I'm bummed. Definitely happy that the tourney has found a new sponsor, but I'm not thrilled about the change of venue. OK, it's not Augusta National. However, it's been the only major on the LPGA played at the same course for decades. We know what to expect on every hole. With the rough up its a solid test.

I got hooked on the LPGA in 2009 when I watched the final round where Bam Bam made eagle on the final hole with one of the best approaches into 18 ever. Heck, no backboard needed. Lol.

In recent years we've seen a ton of drama. Lexi's penalty leading to So Yeon's win. Lydia's stuffing a wedge close to win her 2nd major. Pernilla outlasting Inbee on a Monday. Stacy beating Yani after Yani committed the fatal sin of touching the trophy before the round. Mirim chipping in several times to force a playoff with Brooke and Nelly.

This week will be bittersweet. 'Hope it's a memorable one.

So, if you take a swim poppies pond tomorrow for kicks, do only lose this event or all subsequent Chevron's lol

I will treasure every single minute of it this week:

Two LPGA legends — a course and a commentator — are saying their farewells

"Golf is also losing an iconic broadcaster in 2022. Judy Rankin — who announced last fall that she’d retire at the end of this year — will call the action this week at the Chevron. When the winner’s interview concludes Sunday evening and Rankin exits the Golf Channel booth, that’ll be that for Rankin’s run at Mission Hills."

I agree, memories and history are precious.

But, on the other hand, down here this tournament has never attracted an attendance worthy of a Major Championship.  Time to change!

Sadly, LPGA majors have never attracted big crowds. I expect light attendance in Houston.

Never?

How about In Gee Chun and Lancaster in 2015!

Yeah, decent crowds. The crowds at Sahalee in 2016 to watch Brooke outduel Lydia were pretty good. Otherwise they're pretty light.

Seriously, moving the Chevron has little to do with attendance. Chevron is headquartered in San Relamon, CA, near Oakland. I'm sure there's a Houston connection, but it's not like the LPGA tournaments at The Woodlands, TX drew massive crowds.

I don't know about Houston in 2023, there is always hope it could be different.  On the other hand, Mission Hills has proved to be nothing.

Well, I disagree on that.  Is the course my favourite?  Heck no and far from actually.  But, there is no other major, save the USWO, that has the longevity as this one -- not the AIG, KPMG, and most certainly not Evian.  It is one that mirrors the Masters in so much as it was the vision of Dinah Shore (Robert T. Jones Jr.,), played annually at the same venue year in and year out with its own set of traditions.

As for Houston, lets hope it is a good course . . . and how is Houston this time of year or even mid March?

Houston weather this time of year could be almost anything.  Wet, cold, windy, warm, tornadoes, etc... .  I predict many weather delays in the Chevron's future.
