Fowler Becoming Jay Don Blake of the Modern Era?

Pate would be knocked out immediately after taking such an inordinately slow wind-up to throw his first punch that Jay Don was able to nip in with a 7 punch combo and a couple of body shots to Pate's glass ribs.

7 punch combo! that is chopping some wood! Something like: Jab, cross, left hook, double right body hook, right hook to the jaw, and finish with the big looping left hook on the liver?? Pate would never be able hit a fade again. He would be no body turn and all hands.

I think the Jay Don Blake thread is going to pull through.

It's been moved to recovery.

Thank Goodness GIFs | Tenor

It's a good thing nobody inquired on his golf clubs (Tour Edge)...or spoke about his political leanings (Greenspan). Any combination of the two (tour talk) or continued speculation on his skirt skills (Errol Flynn) might have gotten this thread (Ferg's pride) the lock.

Must have been hell on his lag putting. I can three putt from 15 feet after a lefty stick.

Actually he was a decent putter putted with a beat to crap Bulls Eye looked like at some time in it's life had been used for a plow point. Between him and Canadian Mark McNulty it would be a pick bet on which putter was beat up the most. Corey Pavin even though he was a lifetime Bulls Eye user is not mentioned here because his always looked pretty decent

Dave Rummels' 'tache though. Clipped. Tight. Sharp.

And those peach-hued, beltless, tight-legged trousers with a matching La Mode shirt. And a Maxfli cap that needs red beacons atop it to ward off low flying aircraft. And Eye 2s.

He's no Jay Don, but he's close.

I was just watching my nephew play this and started reading the thread lol!

This looks like it may have been modelled on John Huston, c.1990.

At the current rate of attrition, LIV will have all top PGA players in a matter of months. Except of course one Jay Don Blake, a man of principle, a true patriot and hero.

Of Jay Don Blake, it can and should be said,

"He is the long pole in the tent."

“Hard times don’t create heroes. It is during the hard times when the ‘hero’ within us is revealed.”

"His practice sessions ended when it was understood and firmly placed in his memory. Internalized."

"He is the olive branch of golf."

Like John F Kennedy once said: "Some people look at Jay Don Blake and ask why. I look at Jay Don and ask why not?"

He is truly a polymath with such wide ranging intellect, abilities & interests (such as textiles) that the world of golf is not big enough to contain him. He is golf's Leonardo da Vinci.

(Actually, I've always wanted to use polymath in a post. One doesn't get many opportunities.)

Takes one to know one.

The textile knowledge was passed down to him from his grandfather, John Don Blake.  And like his grandad, he pronounced it textills.

For hours they would sit in grandad's den talking through the finer points of cotton and common wool blends.  They would fashion capes of cloth and parade about the house calling out the many the many uses of textiles.  It was the time in Jay Don Blake's life he called pivotal.  Partial to natural fibers, he spoke of synthetics only when necessary.

Fowler burst onto the scene and quickly made his first Ryder Cup appearance in 2010. In 2016 he had his biggest victory to date with the Players Championship. But since then it's been a long and steady decline into mediocrity. This coincides with an influx of younger and better talent, including:

Spieth

Koepka

Rahm

Scheffler

Morikawa

Schaufflee

Thomas

Smith

DeChambeau

Cantlay

Fowler's shtick with the 70's porn stash and longish hair no longer looks cool, and more like out of touch with the top tier, a lot like journeyman Jay Don Blake did in the 70's and 80's.

I've been saying for years that Fowler is the most overrated golfer on tour.  His five wins puts him in the company of Ken Green, Mark Wilson, Phil Rodgers, Scott Verplank, Dan Forsman, and Billy Mayfair.  Younger golfers today have never heard those names.

I didn't realize that Verplank had 5 wins.  Good on him.

People used to tell me its not like henis Ben Curtis! I'm like you are right! Let me know even he has more wins. He is either tied with him now or maybe 1 more.

Not just old ladies, Rickie is also loved by really hot pole vaulters.

Also, I'm pretty sure Shiels has been smoked by every pro he's challenged. At this point I think that includes Westwood, Scott, and Rickie. There may be others.
