In Gee....the best tempo, rhythm, and balance in golf.  Ideal for tougher courses and majors.  Now if we could just see more of her, would be nice

Just attended In Gee's post-round interview . . .her best one yet.  I have never seen her so relaxed and happy like this.  Her English was really good and she seemed to embrace the moment.  She expressed herself so well today and she has only learned English over the past 10 years or so and not as a child.

 

Side note -- she was asked if she had a favourite "dumbo" gift from fans . . . she was reluctant to answer for concern that it might hurt the feelings of all the Flying Dumbo's . . . but she said that her favourite was a Dumbo headcover that she had been using for the past 6-7 years . . . but she had to finally take it off because it had been sunbleached and wearing thin.

Does anyone know what In Gee's 9 wood is?  Presumably a PING G425 Max (and the website is not up to date)?  Maybe this is also why her 5-iron is out?  Hopefully she gets over the finish line and we can see WITB.

 

For the old timers out there, I still have a Titleist PT 23 degree fairway.  It's tiny (probably smaller than many modern hybrids) and only so useful but I kept it just because I think it is a cool club.

In Gee really struggled with too much spin with the G400 before switching to the G410. I imagine it'll be in her bag for some time.

Did Mollie negotiate the current LPGA television contract for the LPGA tour non USGA events through 2030 a few years back when Mike Whan was still commissioner of the LPGA and also the USGA contract back in 2015 that FOX had for all USGA events? She did not. So again what is she realistically expected to do? Force already contracted television networks with specific time windows to disregard them?

 

FWIW when Annika shot her 59 back in the day in 2001 it wasn't on live tv. ESPN interrupted their other tv coverage to show it. I'll guess that's Mollie's fault as well.

They’re just contracts, everything can be re-negotiated and/or other media vehicles can be explored.

The weight of lofty expectations.  🙂    Even Mike Whan admits he was unable to create the increased exposure needed to help the LPGA.   And this tournament in 2022, was committed back in 2018 when CCC formed the relationship with PGA.  The present LPGA Commish wasn't announced until a year ago, and she's really only been on the job since September (when she was unveiled at the Solheim).   In 6 months - there's no way she's going to be able to renegotiate TV contracts.  I think they are still on an extension from the old Golf Channel deal.  The best thing going for LPGA is Golf Channel (with all due respect) is not a major network.  Why?  B/c NBC (or any other major network) probably doesn't believe that the LPGA is worth watching to its viewers.  Sad but probably true.  If I recall - the PGA tour was the one that negotiated the LPGA contracts - I'm not sure Whan did it for LPGA exclusively.  But I could be wrong.

 

WE fans love the LPGA - we know how great it could be...but it's hard to convince folks of that.    Case in point - the PGA/KPMGA is a major...yet the crowds at CCC are significantly less than the men's US Open in 2011 - heck they are even less than the Wells Fargo played across the street at TPC.   I would guess that even though CCC is closed for the tournament - that the amount of foot traffic is lighter than a month's worth of playing by members on the courses.   You want NBC to give live-air-time for something that visually doesn't look like a men's major?   That's going to take a lot longer than 6 months on the job.  🙂   I hope she can do it - I think the LPGA is worth watching.  Big fan.

I'm not suggesting that Mollie should have renegotiated these contracts by now, my comments aren't made as a criticism of her work to date. Who knows, she might be busy addressing this all now and we will not see it until it comes to fruition?

 

My point is that it can't go on and not be addressed. Contracts renegotiated, reframed, new coverage vehicles or whatever.

 

What timeframe? For next season would be optimal (that gives Mollie 16 months in the job by then?), if not then the following season (so 28 months in the job?).

 

She must find a way.

 

Other issues like increased prizemoney and the saving of an event or two has been happening during her tenure so that reflects well on her to date.
