Sun Mountain 2023 Lineup

Was deciding between the 2.5+ and Hoofer lite for a couple of days already.

However i chanced upon the new 2023 lineup for SM

just buy looking at 2022 vs 2023 2.5+ seems like the design changed quite a bit

I see their 45LS has added back the third pocket along the middle, which makes me happy.  I just hope the drink pocket can expand like on my 2019 model where it is mesh and it stretches.

 

Hopefully they also went back to the puffy shoulder straps.  They are so comfortable.

So from a former 2.5 user who walked 75+ rounds per year - happy to see the change on the hip pad for 2023 as the previous design seemed to dig in at certain angles (I was a 15+ year hoofer user).  I have moved on, but for the golfer who walks the majority of the time but will ride every once in a while, a tough bag to beat.  Now for design options.... not the best, but was lucky to get one from my club which helped with no logos except for our club's.

In my experience much less club tangle with SM over the hoofer.

They must have a got a really good deal on the fabric or something because the 2023 lineup is the ugliest color schemes I've ever seen.

Now that the owner/founder of Sun Mountain has sold the company to Private Equity I wonder if there will be a change in quality.  Like cubuffs I am a walker and the 2.5+ has been my Go To for several years.

decided to buy a hoofer lite instead for like half the price of a SM 2.5+.

Looked at a 2.5+ few days ago in DSG and was disappointed in the fabric it was made of compared to my W/S Quiver. Seemed cheap to me, especially for $250. Would like a few extra pockets, the Quiver has 3 zippered and 1 open on the front but compared to the 2.5+, I’m totally satisfied with the Quiver for now.

budgetgolf has some 2023 no logo, single strap 2.5+ bags available.  They have 1 each of 3  colorways available.  I snagged the black one they had.

OK that Mid-Stripe is essentially a SM made Vessel bag I assume, and it looks completely sick.

 

As someone who keeps going back to SM from Vessel, Hoofers, and Jones bags, I think that one may be enough for me to clear out my collection (for a bit)

Totally agree.  I don't mind paying these prices for a good quality bag but quite frankly, the lines seem blurred at times between the SM $250 bag and the $100 - $150 bags under various other names

The 2.5 has been my go to bag for years. Some brutal colours this year, but solid black and solid navy are in the line up so the works fine for me as options.

 

Funny enough I most disappointed with the patriot bag. Past version were a conservative mix of Red, White and Blue and was good colour scheme if you preferred something low-key that was not plain black. The 2022 had a flag patch in the US and none included if sold outside the US. The addition of the Stars and Stripes into the fabric of the bag make another wise nice colour combo a no go if you are not an American / have US connections/ US roots etc.

Received my "black" no logo 2.5+ single strap bag today, hahaha.  At first I was repulsed, but the color is actually growing on me.  Has an old school leather look to it.  Edit- the quality seems as good as ever and the new hip pad is very nice.

Straps are very nice.  They have a different lining than the standard ez fit straps, nice and plush.

Thanks for the pics.  I was interested in this color once I saw it online but haven't seen it in person.  Still growing on you?

I do like it, but the company already sent out the black bag and a return label so I'll likely go with the black assuming the correct bag arrives

Can you confirm there is no Velcro glove patch?

Correct, no glove patch.  I don't recall the 2.5 ever having a velcro tab, which is my preference since I don't wear a glove.  I just looked over the bag again and I think it's now my favorite version of the 2.5 surpassing the 2019 model.  All of the changes over the years are subtle.  I prefer the valuables pocket angled like it is on the 2023 (rather than vertical on the 2022).  I also really like the new hip pad for comfort and for looks (the 'air flow' graphics are finally gone).  The single strap is so perfect and since I only carry 7 or 8 clubs I don't need 2 straps with this light of a bag.  I will be removing the water bottle icon and pencil/pen icon (why do they continue to include those?).  I'd also prefer the dashed graphics not be there but I don't think they can be removed without leaving ghost marks so I'll leave them.

Here's the all black, no logo, single strap 2.5+.  I kind of like the pecan/java colorway better, but have a feeling the black will be staying as I like it's minimalness.

My old C130 was showing some age with many zipper failures/overall wear and tear so decided it was time for a new bag. Went with the 2023 Sync. It's a bit smaller, lighter and less overall pocket space but I like the full length slots and having to change out fewer clubs when switching between my Clicgear 3.5 and a cart. And the Sync even fits into my Clicgear 3.5 better than the C130.
