Hole in one ball type?

Who cares if someone judges you for using a certain ball then?  It obviously bothers you to the point you literally said you fear it and would rather not make a HIO than make one with a Kirkland.

I’m all for playing shag balls I just would rather not put a scuffed range ball in a case. I’m keeping a hio ball regardless of brand.

That's awesome you made one with a hickory club. I respect the not keeping them as trophies and the another day at the office mentality.

It is very satisfying to get one with one of my hickory clubs, it was especially memorable as it came at a course that celebrated its 100th anniversary this year and is an iconic design by Walter Travis. In the last five years I have played more than 400 rounds with hickory clubs, so I have certainly had enough chances. By the way, hickory clubs are very playable and I believe vintage clubs should be played, not displayed.

The last HIO was a couple years ago in early August. Less than two weeks later, in one of our hickory tournaments, a friend  playing in my group had his first ace on the second hole we played. Less than a week later one of my best buddies (the one that got me started in hickory) got his first ace. In just over three weeks there were three hickory HIO’s and I wrote an article for our GHSC Newsletter about the experience. Neither of my friends have mounted their HIO ball to the best of my knowledge.

I recently got my 3rd HIO...with a Ksig ball...no biggie, found it, played it, liked the way it felt (I think they're made by Callaway). Subsequently lost it. My first one was with a Top Flight Magna...remember those? I think I still have that ball in a trophy they gave me...first HIO and all. It's just thrilling to get a hole-in-one no matter what ball you're playing.

Does anyone else consider the type of ball they use on par 3’s?  My two greatest fears are god and holing out with a Kirkland or top flite and having to frame the ball. I’d rather not hole out and make a 4 to be honest. Wondering if anyone else fears the same?

I actually like the Kirkland ball.  Play with it all the time.

Understand that you mentioned you were a little over the top on your first post, but I do find it very odd that you make a big deal of not knowing or caring what ball you used on your multiple hole in ones, but then reference in detail the course and age and designer and how you guys made such history an article was written about you.

Anyone who shames someone for being excited to display a rare feat needs to get a life.

Would definitely not care or be worried about my hole in one ball type lol.

That being said I had a funny 2020-2021. In the span of 13 months I got 3 aces which was awesome. 2 on my home course and 1 out of town. I use yellow Titleist AVX balls so each one was with the same ball/brand.

I've kept career low score cards or awesome out of town round cards but I just kept using the balls. I never did save the HIO balls.

My first ace was made a few years back. It was early Spring and when the weather was cold I played the Callaway ERC with the triple track lines. Just seemed to work well in colder weather.

Made the ace and threw the ball in my bag and forgot about it. A few months later, my wife and I are at the range and on her last ball she hit an uncharacteristically horrible shot and wanted one more. Told her to grab "anything but a Pro-V1 out of my bag".

Didn't even realize that she hit the HOI ball at first. My plaque finally came in and went to get the ball to hang it. That's when I realized what could have happened.

I figured with it being weeks later, I was screwed. Went to the range a few days later to practice and threw a hail mary and asked.

Lady said: "You know what, I remember seeing a ball with lines on it and thinking how strange that was." She goes outside to the multiple buckets of balls and finds it for me within 10 minutes. Luckily I had written the date on it so was able to confirm it was my ball, and still in excellent condition.

Hope you bought drinks for the lady at the range.

No Aces yet but I toss all memorable balls into a trophy cup on a bookshelf. Holeouts from 100+, museum pieces, and funny logos mostly.

It's shocking what ancient balls people will play with and lose.

Also have a proVI i found that someone ordered with the presidential seal, the words "commander-in-chief" and their name imprinted. Their name also happened to be Jim, so,  in the cup it went.

My two longest holeouts,  165 and 195 were a rule 35 Callaway and a Noodle.

Beggars can't be choosers. I'd take an ace with any ball.

25 years ago my one and only was with a Wilson Ultra Competition it was a mis hit 155 yard 8 iron. One hop and in. I was a single player walking that day and another single player just left the green. I when I hit it, I thought it went long but I couldn’t see it because on the flagstick. The other single just looked and then turned back around so that’s why I thought it was long. (What a d**k) no congratulations, no nothing. A player on the adjacent hole was the one screaming “hole in one! “. I had a beer waiting for him when he came into the clubhouse. Had him sign my card as a whiteness too! 😁

Thank you! I got it done at Michael’s as a custom framing job. It’s a little big and obnoxious but pink ball ace on a US Open course deserved it I thought.

I’ve made 3 hole in ones with three different golf balls. 1st one was with a 9 iron and a Maxfli MD 2 piece distance ball, 2nd one was with a 8 iron and Spalding Tour Edition which was a VERY high spin 2 piece ball, and my 3rd one was with a PW and a Maxfli HT 3 piece wound Balata ball. Unfortunately it’s been almost 30yrs since my last one…..

I have made two hole in ones.  Each time it was with my preferred ball.  I used the Maxfli Noodle ball in Nov 2005 since it was late fall and chilly.  This year in Sept, I used a Oncore Elixr as that is what I am playing this year and part of last.  I like that ball so I use them!

@4PF this is the Wayne Player ball

I would have no problem with whatever I used for an Ace.  If it was something goofy, I would make jokes about it at least as much as anyone else, while still displaying it.

Ultimately, it's very much a who cares thing for me.

FWIW, I have an ace, it was with a Snell MTB Black.

So you had your ace within the last 10 years. Now, here's a new wrinkle. To be legit can it be a ball you found or does it have to be bought new? 😁
