Congratulations to Fatima Fernandez Cano and Kristen Gillman, who Monday qualified!

Kristen Gillman, #179 CME ranking, could save herself a trip to Q-School Stage II by finishing well this week.

It's election day and FFC is my nomination for "biggest dissapointment" of the season, has she only made 1 cut ? Her and Lilia have gone in polar opposite directions being the top 2 from the Epson just a season ago.

Other noms include Nana (post Thailand win, Jeeno playoff lost), Patty T, and Su Hyun.

I'm about 90 minutes away from this tournament, living in Longboat Key, FL, was thinking about going to see the LPGA on Sat or Sunday. Anyone else on the forum thinking of going? I've never been to that club or that area, don't know if it's pleasant or a zoo. I'm also expecting that Thursday play gets cancelled by rain, Friday could also be in doubt. Weekend weather should be pleasant however. Sad to see my favorite, Jeeno won't be competing. I guess there's a limit to her willingness to travel - maybe she gets this week off to visit family thanks to being in Asia last week. But I saw another Thai player was showing herself on Instagram already eating Thai food in Tampa yesterday - quick flight.

I worked the PGA Valspar tournament in Oldsmar a couple years ago....different course but really enjoyed the area. Went to a good German restaurant in a plaza but can't recall the name. I'll be working the CME in Naples next week and anxious to get a look at that area. A couple friends lost everything in Ft. Myers due to Ian. Insurance co. awarded them <2% of what they had in it. (Sorry, wrong boards.)

Well, thats certainly in interesting pick for biggest disappointment. In all reality the Epson top grads usually don't light the LPGA up immediately, if at all.

I can certainly think of a few huge dissapointments that were supposed to be dominating golf right now, but instead they rarely see the weekends.

Most def a reach, but making 1 cut all year is kind of pathetic.  She was stuck in the limbo of being granted exemption to lpga events and not able to play on the Epson Tour because of her priority.  Usually the younger players will yo-yo back and forth until they sink or swim, but FFC being in her "prime" was kind of a bummer to see her playing so poorly.   Who knows maybe she will be a winner one day, lots of oldies won this season for the first time so anything is possible.

I guess the popular winner would be Patty based on her prior accomplishments.

I'm volunteering again for this one. I had Lexi's Por-Am group on Monday. She made 11 birdies en route to a 61. including a -7 28 on the front.

Yesterday I walked with a lady from AWS doing some alpha testing of a shotscope lite like shot tracking system. Think of it something a little more sophisticated than arccos. The player wore a gps tracker on their belt. The AWS lady then held a phone sized device and added in the club type. She then held a button down when they hit, and then did that for each shot. Kinda interesting. Janie Jackson had it on the front nine and said she didn't even notice it. Aza Munoz was the exact opposite and said it wasn't very comfortable to her.

My wife and I went last year and had a great time.  Enjoyed it more than the Naples Finale.  Added bonus, if you are a veteran, you can pick up 2 free tickets, 1 for yourself & a plus 1.  I think they do this because it is around Veterans Day.

One other thing I just remembered. The hole in one car on #12 this year is the Lambo SUV. It's a 2 year lease and it also included $24,000 to cover insurance.

That had the Lambo’s last year parked by the driving range.  I told my wife that would be as close as she would get to driving one.

Found this interesting w.r.t. the 2023 event being renamed “The Annika…”!!

Source: https://www.tampabay.com/sports/outdoors/2022/10/25/lpga-brittany-lincicome-pelican-womens-championship-lexi-thompson-annika-sorenstam/

..”Event to become ‘Sorenstam’s baby’

Last month, the LPGA Tour and Pelican Women’s Championship announced that Annika Sorenstam will have her name in the event’s title for 2023, turning it into “The Annika driven by Gainbridge at Pelican.”

Marci Doyle, executive director for the event, previously worked as chief operating officer and tournament director of the Arnold Palmer Invitational. She said Tuesday that this event will become Sorenstam’s “baby.”

They wanted to find the “female version of Arnold Palmer,” Pelican Golf Club owner Dan Doyle Jr. said. He added that Sorenstam’s addition “just raises the tournament’s caliber just another notch.”

“I don’t see (Sorenstam) being the type of person who will just throw her name on there and not make sure that she’s very involved and things are done the right way,” said Gary Koch, an NBC Sports golf analyst who has worked with Sorenstam covering U.S. Women’s Open Championships.”

I need to find out what Maria Fassi had for breaky this morning, super impressed by that round. Wonder if the open space and softening of the course played a role for her. As I mentioned earlier in the week, she has played some decent golf here.

Looks like players are coming out of the woodwork for this one. Angel, Pernilla, Gillman, Muni, Pauline, Tiffany. Good stuff folks.
