I measure 7i heads as a hobby and the g4xx has hovered around a 3” blade length (from bend in the hosel to end of the blade) pretty much since the G400 irons through the g430s. The i5xx measure 2 7/8”. Similar toe height. Topline is a little thinner on the i5xx vs G4xx. Sole is 1” on the G4xx and 7/8” on the i5xx. So everything is just a hair smaller on the i5xx. Not sure what would be needed between them.

My buddy is between G425 and G430 irons. Wants G430 but wants the price of G425s.  Not a ping guy, but is a new G series iron set coming out this year to where he could catch a price drop on the G430s?

no it would be first quarter next year new G irons would be out. new I525s are coming out in a couple months and blueprints just game out.

i530 and G730 will be out next month. i530 replaces i525 and G730 replaces G710.

The measurements might not be all that different, but I would argue the playability is. Anyone can use the G430, but the same can’t be said for the i525/530. In fact, for me, the i230 is easier to use than the i525. I found the original i500 easy to game, but I really struggled with the i525.

I am the same way.  I have successfully gamed i200s, i210's were fine for me upon testing them... and gamed Ping G (many models) but the i5xx have never worked for me either. 

But I wouldn't say that a new model is needed.  I think for you and me, it just doesn't fit us.  

 

If you need an easier to launch club, workable club with a nice look (not too small, not to big he i230 is there. 

If you need easy...G430, G730.  

If you want Ping but a players distance, i5xx.

If you want Ping and something smaller than the i230, you got the Blueprint S...even more playerish. Blueprint T.  

I just can't see them fisting in another model between the i5xx and the G4xx.

I500s worked better for me than 525s and if it weren’t for the sound and feel, I would have never tried i210s. Still think I played better golf with the 500s than the 210s but could get over the click. I thought they looked better than anything Ping put out. I have an old set of 500s still sitting in the garage. I won’t be looking at the 530s due to loft jacking. Just can’t get over a retro spec 43 PW. I’m sure there is a reason for Ping doing it but I just wish they would slot the 500 series at same loft as 200 series and let the tech do the distance gains.

It doesn’t make financial sense for most OEMs to fill EVERY sub category of club. Ping has favored the higher handicap golfer a lot lately. This new release of Blueprint S/T has given them a big boost in that market. I would say they have never been more well rounded than they are now (including the future i5xx and g7xx).
